hyponymy

Hyponymie

Hyponymy is a term of linguistics and refers to the semantic-conceptual sub-order of a semem under another semem. The subordinate Semem is called Hyponym, the superior Semem hyperonym. The hyperconversion of the semantic superposition is called hyperonymy. Hyponym is thus synonym for the sub-concept, hyperonym for the upper concept. The linguistic rule prevailing in linguistics is historically conditioned, and on the other hand it is based on terminological independence from the conceptual logic: between word, concept, semem does not have to be sharply distinguished and one escapes criticism of traditional conceptual logic. In a narrower sense, the ratio of the hyponym - hyper - relationship is also identified with the type - genre relation. Hyponymy is a central semantic relation between terms in semantic networks, taxonomies, and thesauri. It must be distinguished from the part-whole relationship.
