luminophore

Luminophor

A luminophore is a substance which afterglow in the dark after being irradiated with short-wave light. The phenomenon is based on phosphorescence or fluorescence. Phosphorescent phosphorescent phosphors are used for the production of safety signs and decorations. For luminophores, which fluoresce after fluorescence, there are a wide range of applications, For example in fluorescent tubes or for medical purposes. Dials of watches, as well as indicators in the aircraft, formerly contained radioactive substances, which in turn stimulated fluorescent substances. However, nowadays only luminophors are used. Also, a chemical compound such as e.g. Luminol or luciferin is a luminophore when, in a given reaction, usually oxidation with oxygen or hydrogen peroxide, it reacts to an excited product, which then emits radiation in the visible region. In this case one speaks of chemoluminescence.
