Atetosis

Athetosis, a Greek athetos is a symptom that occurs in 25% of cases of cerebral palsy. They are lesions in the extrapyramidal system that manifests itself in slow, involuntary, uncontrolled movements and without object. Having the muscles of the mouth affected, athetosis present language disorders, but they are good formers of concepts and their intelligence is not as affected as in other subtypes of cerebral palsy, such as stiffness or spasticity. La atetosis, del griego athetos es un síntoma que se da en un 25% de los casos de parálisis cerebral. Son lesiones en el sistema extrapiramidal que se manifiesta en movimientos lentos, involuntarios, incontrolados y sin objeto. Al tener los músculos de la boca afectados, los atestósicos presentan trastornos del lenguaje, pero son buenos formadores de conceptos y su inteligencia no se ve tan afectada como en otros subtipos de parálisis cerebral, como la rigidez o la espasticidad.
