Capra

Capra

Capra is a genus of artiodactyl mammals of the Bovidae family commonly known as goats or wild goats. It is composed of up to 9 species, including wild goat, markhor and ibex. However, there are animals of other genera of the subfamily Caprinae and sometimes referred to as "goats", such as the genus Oreammos, to which belongs the "goat" of the Rocky Mountains. Wild goats originate from Central-West Asia, where most of the present-day species still live, and from where they colonized parts of Europe and Africa. The domestic goat is a domesticated subspecies of the wild goat. About 9000 years ago, during the Neolithic period, the first domestic goats appeared in Mesopotamia, whose present distribution, both domestically and asylum, is practically cosmopolitan. Goats are nowadays one of the main domestic animals in the Middle East, North and East of Africa and Mediterranean Europe.
