Child

Crío

In Greek mythology, Crío was one of the Titans in the list given by Hesiod in his Theogony, a son of Uranus and Gea. The least individualized of them, was overthrown in the Titanomachy. M. L. West has suggested how Hesiod filled in the complement of the Titans from the central group: adding three figures from the archaic tradition of Delphi, Ceo, Phoebe, and Themis. Among other possible interpolations of Titans was Creus, whose interest for Hesiod was as the father of Perses and grandfather of Hecate, of whom Hesiod was, according to West, an "enthusiastic evangelist." He was father to Euribia, daughter of Gea and Ponto, of Astreo and Pallas, besides Perses. Of the union of Astreo with Eos were born Eosforo, the other Stars and the Winds. He participated in the war between the Titans and the Olympians, although without any specific role to play. When the Titans were defeated, Crío was banished along with his brothers to Tartarus, the deepest part of the underworld.
