Jacobins

Jacobinos

The Jacobins were the members of the political group of the French Revolution called Club of the Jacobins, whose soothes was in Paris. They were republicans, defenders of popular sovereignty, their vision of the indivisibility of the nation led them to advocate a centralized state. They are often confused with The Terror, partly because of the black legend who reported the Thermidorian reaction on Robespierre. In the nineteenth century, Jacobinism was the source of inspiration for the republican parties that promoted the Second and Third French Republic. In contemporary France, this term was associated with a centralist conception of the Republic.
