Lindo

In Greek mythology, Lindo was a son of the sun god, Helios, and the nymph Rodo. Together with his brothers Camiro and Ialiso he received from his father the government of the island of Rhodes, which had just emerged from the waters after the flood that ordered Zeus to end the telquines. The three brothers divided the island into three zones and founded their respective capitals, to which they gave their name. Thus, Lindo would be the founder of the magnificent city of Lindos, ancient capital of Rhodes and famous for its cult to the hero Heracles, in which imprecaciones were uttered instead of blessings. These sacrifices were regarded as disastrous if someone spouted involuntarily words of good omen. Because of the devotion shown to her in this city, Heracles received the epithet of Heracles Lindius or Lindo. Also the city of Lindos was devout of Athena, when Helios warned to its children that the first mortals who adored this goddess would enjoy forever of his company. Another version followed by Strabo makes to Lindo grandson, and not son, of Helios. In this case it would be son of Cércafo and Cídipe, kings of Rhodes.
