Busgosu

Busgosu

The Busgosu or Musgosu is a forest creature in Asturian mythology, whose appearance, half man half goat, remembers the Greek god Pan, or the Roman Fauno. It is bipedal, and has horns, hairy torso and thick hair; The legs are of goat, whereas the torso and the arms, like its face, present human traits. However, other representations show their appearance closer to a goblin, highlighting their pointed ears rather than their horns, although still retaining their goat's features and attributes, in these cases he is represented wearing a green suit and hat. There are two myths, one in the eastern part of the Cantabrian Mountain Range, which resembles more the same Cantabrian myth, that is, where the Musgosu is a benefactor and guides the shepherds when they lose, or helps to fix the cabins of the brañas. The other myth, more widespread in western Asturias, says that Busgosu is the lord of the forest and everything that inhabits it. He is a fierce enemy of the woodcutters and hunters, and his kiss causes the tisis, demacrando to its victims and leading them to a cruel and slow death.
