Nevus

Nevus

The word nevus or nevo alludes to a proliferation of different types of cells in the skin. Thus, there may be sebaceous nevus, apocrine, and so on. The most characteristic are melanocytic nevus, which are pigmented cell proliferations called "nevic cells". It is not known with certainty where the nevus cell comes from; Many assume that it is related to the melanocyte, cell responsible for making melanin, the pigment that gives the color brown to the skin. The most common variety of melanocytic nevus is acquired common melanocytic nevus. Virtually all people with a clear complexion have this type of nevus. The number is changing with age, since nevus is a dynamic injury. It first appears at the junction between the dermis and the epidermis, then migrates to the dermis while becoming more bulky. Therefore, the protrusion of a nevus does not mean that it is being transformed into a melanoma type cancer, but only that it is mature. Progressively they disappear while others appear.
