Organdy

Organdí

The organdy is a muslin of cotton fabric that can be white or dyed pale colors. It is a thin, transparent and rigid fabric and sometimes embroidered. It receives a chemical finish that gives that characteristic of starch that is not removed with the washes. It is used for the manufacture of dresses, blouses, garment adornments, necks in old costumes, curtains, curtains, lingerie, sheets for altars, etc. Swiss white organdí is very appreciated for its quality. The origin of the word is of the French organdi registered already from 1723 referring to the muselina folded in form of book. It is possible that this cloth originated in Kunya-Urgench of Turkmenistan.
