The instrument is capable of measuring natural time in conventional units. Fundamentally it allows to know the current time, although it can have other functions, like measuring the duration of an event or activating a signal at a specific time. Watches have been used since ancient times and as the technology of its manufacture has evolved, new models have appeared with greater precision, better performance and presentation, and lower manufacturing cost. It is one of the most popular instruments, since practically many people have one or several watches, mainly of bracelet, so that in many homes can have several watches, many appliances incorporate them in the form of digital clocks and in each computer there is a clock. The watch, besides its practical function, has become an object of jewelry, symbol of distinction and valuation. The highest accuracy achieved so far is the latest atomic clock developed by the US National Bureau of Standards. Se denomina reloj al instrumento capaz de medir el tiempo natural en unidades convencionales. Fundamentalmente permite conocer la hora actual, aunque puede poseer otras funciones, como medir la duración de un suceso o activar una señal en cierta hora específica. Los relojes se utilizan desde la antigüedad y a medida que ha ido evolucionando la tecnología de su fabricación han ido apareciendo nuevos modelos con mayor precisión, mejores prestaciones y presentación y menor coste de fabricación. Es uno de los instrumentos más populares, ya que prácticamente muchas personas disponen de uno o varios relojes, principalmente de pulsera, de manera que en muchos hogares puede haber varios relojes, muchos electrodomésticos los incorporan en forma de relojes digitales y en cada computadora hay un reloj. El reloj, además de su función práctica, se ha convertido en un objeto de joyería, símbolo de distinción y valoración. La mayor precisión conseguida hasta ahora es la del último reloj atómico desarrollado por la Oficina Nacional de Normalización de los EE.UU.
