Turn

Turno

Turno, in Roman mythology, son of Dauno and the nymph Venilla and brother of the nymph Juturna, is king of the Rutulos, town of Latium. In Virgil's Aeneid, he is the second major antagonist, preceded by the goddess Juno. Due to his high lineage was the fiancée of Lavinia, daughter of the Latin king, but could not marry her because an oracle had predicted to Latin that the princess would have to marry with a man arrived from the sea that would create a great empire in the name of The latinos. That foreigner would be Aeneas. Disgusted, and under the influence of Juno and the Fury Alecto, Turno declared the war to Eneas. Turno also thought to obtain the support of Latin, but was rejected by this, reason for which it looked for the alliance of the king of the Etruscans, Mezencio, that did not see with good eyes the increasing power of the Latin league. They fought trojans and ruthers for a long time in the fields of Latium, both with their respective allies, and also intervening the gods. In the course of the battles, Turnus killed Palante, son of Evandro and commander of the Arcadians, allies of Aeneas.
