Eastern Catholic Churches

Iglesias católicas orientales

It is known today as the Eastern Catholic Churches to the Eastern Christian Churches that recognize the authority of the Pope of Rome, that is to say, that they are Catholic, but maintain their organization and particular rites. In the past they were also called Uniates, but the term is now considered contemptuous and inaccurate since it refers to partial unions with the Church of Rome but can not be applied to the Churches that have always been in communion with the pope. At present, the term uniatas subsists among the Orthodox and is rejected by the Eastern Catholics themselves.
