Bolometer

Bolomètre

A bolometer is a detector developed by Samuel Pierpont Langley in 1878 to study solar electromagnetic radiation. Its principle is simple: it converts the energy of the incident electromagnetic radiation into heat within the absorber. The latter is a thermometer whose electrical or magnetic properties depend on temperature, it is thus possible to measure the impedance variations of the detector, and therefore the incident electromagnetic energy.

Definition of bolomètre in the French dictionary

The bolometer definition in the dictionary is a very sensitive electrical resistance thermometer that is used to measure the low heat releases produced by light radiation. Another definition of bolometer is quantitatively defined thanks to the indications provided by a bolometer.
