Pyrrhon of Elis

Pyrrhon d'Élis

Pyrrhon of Elis is a skeptical philosopher from Elis, a provincial town in the northwest of the Peloponnese. His philosophical activity was around 320 BC. AD, with, as disciples, Philo of Athens and Timon of Phlius, a brilliant poet-philosopher who lived in his familiarity for twenty years. He is regarded by ancient skeptics as the founder of what has been called pyrrhonism. Pyrrhon d'Élis est un philosophe sceptique originaire d'Élis, ville provinciale du nord-ouest du Péloponnèse. Son activité philosophique se situe vers 320 av. J.-C., avec, pour disciples, Philon d'Athènes et Timon de Phlionte, un brillant poète-philosophe qui vécut dans sa familiarité pendant vingt ans. Il est considéré par les sceptiques anciens comme le fondateur de ce que l'on a appelé le pyrrhonisme.
