elettroforesi

Electrophoresis

Elettroforesi

Electrophoresis is an analytical and separating technique based on the movement of electrically charged particles immersed in a fluid by the effect of an electric field applied by a pair of electrodes to the fluid itself. In the case of an electrolytic cell, the cathode assumes a negative charge while the anode assumes positive charge, so that the particles move to the electrode having an opposite charge with respect to the charge of the particle; in particular they move to the cathode if they have positive charge and to the anode if they have negative charge; in the first case the process is called cataphoresis, in the second anaphoresis. Electrophoresis is a particular electrocinetic phenomenon. Another example of electrocynetic phenomenon, similar to electrophoresis, is electrosmosi, where solid-state substances remain motionless, while liquids migrate due to the applied electrical field.

Definition of elettroforesi in the Italian dictionary

The definition of electrophoresis in the dictionary is a unidirectional movement of particles of colloidal substances suspended in a liquid under the action of two electrodes.

La definizione di elettroforesi nel dizionario è movimento unidirezionale di particelle di sostanze colloidali sospese in un liquido sotto l'azione di due elettrodi.
