Parotitis epidemic

Parotite epidemica

The epidemic parotitis, better known by the popular name of ears, is an acute contagious infectious disease. It primarily locates one or both parotids, large salivary glands placed in the back, behind the branches of the jaw or under the ears. If this disease affects adulthood it can lead to infertility as the virus can move between the various districts, even in the testes or ovaries, causing 30% of the severe male orchitis cases and 5% of the female ovarian cases.
