Diamantoid

Diamantoide

A diamond, in the context of manufacturing nanotechnology material components, generally refers to diamond-like structures in a broad sense: ie, strong, dense, rigid 3-D structures of covalently bonded networks, mainly formed by second and first line atoms with valence of three or more. Examples of diaminoid structures include crystalline diamond, sapphires and other rigid diamond-like structures, but with substitutions of different atoms, which may include N, O, Si, S, and so on. Carbomer structures hybridized with Sp ² - in contrast to carbon hybridized with sp ³, on diamond - arranged in flat plates are sometimes also included in the class of diamond materials for nanotechnology. Examples of these are graphite, carbon nanotubes formed by sheets of carbon atoms rolled into tubes, beads of fullerene and other graphene structures.
