Isagoge

Isagoge

Isagoge is the name of the Latin translation made by Boethius of the work Introductio in Praedicamenta of the Greek writer and philosopher Porfírio, a work that is sometimes also mentioned by Quinque voes or Quinque voes Porphyrii. This is a short pedagogical introduction to the study of Aristotle's Categories. The text had a profound influence on the medieval European philosophy and inspired several works with the name Isagoge, even going so far as to designate generally the introduction to the study of the Aristotelian philosophy and the name of the discipline where this study was done. Isagoge is also the title of multiple works by several authors, probably the most famous of which is the Isagoge attributed to Boncompagni, name by which became known Boncompagno of the Signa.
