Lóquio

Lóquios are denominated the losses of blood, mucus and tissues of the interior of the uterus during the puerperal period. Early in the puerperium, the deciduous desquamation and bleeding result in vaginal discharge of variable quantity, called the lquio. The lóquios are characterized, microscopically, by erythrocytes, epithelial cells, fragments of decidua and bacteria. In the first 3 days of postpartum, there is the red loquiation, consisting mainly of blood and trophoblastic debris. From the 3rd to the 10th day, there is locchia fusca, brownish-brown in color due to the degradation of hemoglobin. After the 10th day, there is the locchia flava, purulent in appearance and with a cheese-like odor; being that in pathological conditions it can acquire unpleasant rotting odor. From the 21st day onwards, there is locchia alba, which looks slightly more fluid than egg white, and consists of the normal exfoliation of the endometrium. If there is persistence of reddish staining after two weeks, the possibility of persisting ovary remains and / or subinvolution of the placenta implantation site should be considered.
