Ontogeny

Ontogenia

Ontogeny or ontogenesis is the study of the origins and development of an organism from the embryo to its full form through the different stages of development. Ontogeny is studied in developmental biology. In general terms, ontogeny is also defined as the history of the structural changes of a given unit-which may be a cell, an organism, or a society of organisms-without loss of the organization that allows for its existence. More recently the term ontogeny has been used in cell biology to describe the development of various cell types in a determining organism.
