Pizzicato

Pizzicato

Pizzicato - is the way to play the string instruments by pinching the strings with your fingers. Pizzicato is also widely used in jazz, exploring the rhythmic feature conferred on the instrument in this style. Pizzicato is the technique that is usually used to touch, strumming, with the alternation of two or three fingers, the strings. It has been used for some centuries in jazz and classical music, but in a different way: while in orchestras the pizzicato is just a pinch on the string, normally done with one finger, and in jazz a different footprint is used, placing the finger almost parallel to the string and thus generating a more "full-bodied" sound. In 1911, Bill Johnson, who played bass in the Original Creole Jazz Band, had the bow broken. Not having another handy, Bill tried to play strumming the strings with the fingers of his right hand. The result was so pleasing that since then, the bow has not been used to play this instrument in jazz. The most common method of performing this technique is to use the index and middle fingers to attack the chords, and the ring and the little finger can also be used.
