Zea

Zea

Zea is a genus belonging to the family Poaceae. Zea mays ssp. mays is the only domesticated taxon and is extensively used as human food or animal feed, popularly called corn. The remaining taxa are wild and collectively referred to as teosintos. In the taxonomic classification of Jussieu, Zea is the name of a botanical genus, order Gramineae, class Monocotyledones with hypogynic stamens. Zea é um género botânico pertencente à família Poaceae. Zea mays ssp. mays é o único táxon domesticado e é extensivamente utilizado como alimento humano ou ração animal, popularmente chamado de milho. Os restantes táxons são silvestres e são denominados coletivamente como teosintos. Na classificação taxonômica de Jussieu, Zea é o nome de um gênero botânico, ordem Gramineae, classe Monocotyledones com estames hipogínicos.
