Venule

Vénula

A venulePB or venulePE is a small blood vessel that causes the poor oxygen blood to return from the capillaries to the veins. They participate in tissue-to-blood and inflammatory processes, and can influence blood flow in the arterioles through the production and secretion of diffusible vasoactive substances. The venules have a diameter of 0.2 to 1 millimeter and have three layers: an endothelium composed of squamous epithelial cells that act as a membrane, a middle layer of musculature and elastic tissue and an outer layer of fibrous connective tissue. The middle layer is poorly developed so that the venules have thinner walls than the arterioles. Venules with a diameter of up to 50 nm have capillary-like structures.
