egúmen (egúmeni), s. m. – Superior al unei mănăstiri de călugări ortodocși. Erau numiți de episcopi (începînd cu Miron Barnovski, 1627, de călugării înșiși) și prezentați Domnului de Marele Sfetnic sau Logofăt. De la constituția lui Constantin Mavrocordat (1734) au fost desemnați de mitropolit și confirmați de Domnitor. –
