Meaning of "stânjen" in the Romanian dictionary

Stunning is an archaic measure of length. The embarrassment is often approximated by the length of the human body or opening the arms, and its known submultiples are parts of the human body, such as the foot, the step, the elbow, the palm, and the finger. In Europe the embarrassment had as a common model the ancient Greek embarrassment of six feet, but varied over time, from one country to another, between regions, cities, professions, depending on the size of the standard used. There are also many exceptions that are relevant to the Romanian countries. In Transylvania the embarrassment was mentioned from the Middle Ages and from the 16th century and beyond the Carpathians, Wallachia and Moldavia. In the Romanians, as in other peoples of Europe, the embarrassment was used until its replacement with the metric system in the second half of the 19th century. Stânjenul este o unitate de măsură arhaică a lungimii. Stânjenul este adeseori aproximat cu lungimea corpului uman sau deschidera brațelor, iar submultiplii cunoscuți al acestuia sunt părți din corpul uman, precum piciorul, pasul, cotul, palma și degetul. În Europa stânjenul a avut ca model comun stânjenul antic grec, de șase picioare, însă a variat în timp, de la o țară la alta, între regiuni, orașe, profesii, în funcție de dimensiunea etalonului folosit. Se cunosc și destule excepții, relevante pentru țările române. În Transilvania stânjenul a fost menționat din evul mediu iar din secolul al XVI-lea și dincolo de Carpați, în Țara Românească și Moldova. La români, ca și la alte popoare din Europa, stânjenul a fost folosit până la înlocuirea lui cu sistemului metric, în a doua jumătate a secolului 19.
