I LOVE it when my sister comes to my job at the restaurant. Today she and our cousin Jenny were at the bar when I arrived for my shift. The bartender told me my sister was at the bar. I walked around and there they were! I was so happy to see them. Then as it turns out they were sitting right next to some guy who was friends with my boss. A little while later in the kitchen my boss was like, "Is your sister at the bar?" So long story short, my sister and my cousin being there made my cranky boss happy and I was able to hook them up with free desserts and get a good mood out of cranky boss for a little while!!! Thanks for coming in, B! :) It really made my day! HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE! | | Saturday, October 13th, 2007 | | 1:00 pm |

sick of being sick
So I was ill last week or whenever it was. Went to the DR, got meds, got better. Was feeling great for a few days. Then V got sick. All of a sudden I felt like shite again yesterday! I worked, got thru it but felt really crappy. How depressing to be sick again! Well I felt fine today. I hate that! The on again off again sick bullshit! Work is going well. I sweated my butt off tonight. It's getting busy up on the Upper East Side again. I guess all the folks are back from the Hampty Hamps. Wheee? I don't really have anything interesting to say cause nothing terribly interesting is happening. It's all good though. goodnite. Current Mood: satisfied | | Saturday, August 18th, 2007 | | 11:02 am |
FIVE QUESTIONS
FIVE QUESTIONS from princess_design: 1. Jacques Pepin is coming to the restaurant on your day off (and ONLY that day)...and you have tickets @ the Borgata...for Depeche Mode...front row...and backstage passes. What do you do? Well, this is a difficult choice, but I would have to say I'd be going to see Depeche Mode at The Borgata. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Pepin several times while I was at the FCI. And although he is a lovely man I would love to serve dessert to, a Depeche Mode show is hours of dance party fun. Plus you throw in those backstage passes and the slot machines at the Borgata and it's an alllll night afair. Yep, I'm gonna have to chose Depeche Mode! May I forever burn in culinary hell. 2. Besides pastry, what is your favorite thing to make (food or otherwise)? I'm pretty crafty. I got the gift from my Moms. I haven't made anything in a while though. The last thing I made was a greeting card for Vin. I'm trying to become a fabulous iced tea brewer, as I've written about here on LJ. My last batch wasn't so hot. I think I put too much Mango green tea into it. Or maybe that particular green tea isn't good iced? I also love to garden, so I like making flowers and vegetables grow. 3. What is your favorite Long Island restaurant? (Yes, I am doing research!) There's an Italian restaurant in Valley Stream called Napoli Antica that we like a lot. It's not really anything special. We like the bread. They give everyone a slice of toasted bread (I can't think of what kind at the moment) with a tomato salad on it. Nice touch. And the meals are always very tasty, not too pricey. For sushi it's OSAKA in Lynbrook. Again, nothing fancy. But we go there a lot, know the owners, get hooked up with free Kani salad each time and sushi is always fresh and the rice is always perfectly cooked in rice vinegar. We haven't been to any fancier places on LI, really. Most of them are on the North Shore, too far for us to drive to. It's actually closer for us to drive into the city so that's what we do. 4. You're forever being shipped off to a deserted island with V and Chica (and a cellie to call sis and dad...and me!), you are allowed to pack 1 cd, 1 book, 1 dvd and 1 frivoulous item. What would you pack? The CD would be a mixed MP3 cd of all different songs. The book would be a book on how to survive on a dessert island. The DVD would be Goodfellas and the frivoulous item would be Pollo, my bird. 5. What do you think is your best, physical feature? (Yeah, lame - answer it!LOL!) This IS lame! HAHA! I got ok legs from my Mom so I guess I'll go with that. | | Thursday, August 16th, 2007 | | 7:45 pm |
Marc is fine
I went over to Parrots Of The World today and Marc is fine. The window in the back is boarded up and the baby parrot area in the back is empty except for 2 tanks, which is sad. Anybody who's ever had a conversation with or has asked Marc a question knows he is a very light hearted chap. One time I asked him what was in a particular mix of birdseed he was selling. His reply was, "GOODIES!" in his high pitched, cartoon character-like voice. I really wanted to know what was in it but took his answer and was like, "OK, thanks!" HAHA! Anyway, he's fine and as chipper as ever. I told him I was sorry and suggested perhaps he'll get the birds back. He made some comment about how they're already out of the country and how this kind of thing happens every several years. They didn't take any of the old buddy birds. Harry and Darwin are fine. Darwin "beeeeooped" me as usual and said, "bye bye" when I left the room. All is well at POTW. Current Mood: busy | | Wednesday, August 15th, 2007 | | 11:30 pm |
I'm sad to learn that my favorite pet store, Parrots Of The World, in Rockville Centre, NY, has been robbed of many, many parrots... and according to this news article, the owner, Marc Morrone's favorite bird was taken as well!! You may know Marc Morrone from his TV shows (Pet Keeping was the most recent) and appearances on Martha. V and I bring our Senegal Parrot to Marc to have her nails and wings clipped, and we board her there when we go away. I feel so bad for him. I'm gonna go visit him tomorrow to see how he's doing. I wonder which of his favorite birds they got? I hope it isn't Harry!!!!!! PARROTS OF THE WORLD WAS ROBBED! Current Mood: sad | | Monday, August 13th, 2007 | | 9:52 pm |
The Beach
I finally went to the beach today! And not just to walk on the boardwalk, either. I wore a bathing suit, brought a chair, umbrella and a towel, and paid to sit on the sand (I went to Long Beach)! I didn't care that my body is flabby and the pale white color of a person who works in a windowless room and hasn't seen the sun for weeks. It felt so good to have the sea breeze on my skin. Laying around in the sun, relaxing and reading, was exactly what I wanted to be doing. I went swimming! The water was a bit cold at first but very nice once I got used to it. The waves were pretty good for Long Island. I wanna go back tomorrow. I'm gonna see if I can drag Vee there for a couple hours. | | Sunday, August 12th, 2007 | | 4:11 am |
Almost time to make the donuts...
...and I can't sleep. I have to be up at 6am for work. I'm driving in to work Brunch so I'll leave around 6:45. It's 4:10am and I am wide awake. I couldn't sleep last week, either. Wah! I'm not nervous or anything like that. I just cannot sleep thru the nite! Gonna try again. Current Mood: confused | | Sunday, August 5th, 2007 | | 12:58 am |
2 minutes til bedtime
I worked today... 3:30pm - 11:30pm. I drove in, which was awesome. No traffic, and I got a dope spot. And driving home was a dream. I have to get up and be back at work at 7:30am, so I want to be in bed at 1:00am, which is in less than 1 minute. Beasties at the Borgata were great! Anybody wanna check out my Youtube videos, my user name is: cinnamonkejaro Work is still going well. And Vee and I are tryingt o get tickets to the Beasties at Central Park this Wednesday. i found out today I'm off, so I can go to the show, yo! | | Thursday, August 2nd, 2007 | | 2:18 am |
Work is still gong well. We're leaving for AC in the morning. Beastie Boys at Borgata tomorrow nite. Very very very happy about it. Nobody is allowed to mention who got the boot on Top Chef last nite! I need a few days to watch it! | | Friday, July 20th, 2007 | | 10:34 pm |
The New Job
I'm so happy! I really like my new job! I like my new Pastry Chef. I like the Exec. Chef, too! I like the dessert menu! Everything's cool so far. It's noice. I worked dinner service during Restaurant Week last night. I plated hundreds of desserts (well, not sure if it was hundreds but I know it was WAY more than usual) and I did well. Exec. Chef gave me 2 thumbs up on his way out and asked the Garde Manger chef if they were going to, "take out the new pastry chef" after service. Whee! I'm so glad. (and, I'm the only woman in the kitchen). Current Mood: happy | | Wednesday, April 11th, 2007 | | 7:50 pm |
Jobby job
Today was my 1st day at the new job. I worked 6am - 3:45 pm (with a half hour lunch which I do not get docked for, my boss rules). I LOVED it! I love my new co-workers. Love gettin' paid to do things I've been doing in school. Love not working in an office, not having to deal with a billion kids and an annoying principal/boss. I'm pretty happy right now. My legs do hurt a little, now that I'm finally sitting. And the funny thing is, I had to come home after an almost 10 hour long day and bake some more. I'm making some things for my sister's man's art show opening tomorrow nite. It's ok, I know I'm gonna sleep like a baby tonite. And, Adam's gonna be there :) I'm working tomorrow 7am - 12:00 (short day, wasn't supposed to work at all but I'm going to spread it out over 4 shorter days instead of 3 long ass days), coming home, taking a nap and a shower and jumping on the train into the city to go to the opening. I'm meeting a friend from school and she's coming with me. It's gonna be fun. Wheee! I feel like a kid again! Current Mood: good | | Sunday, February 4th, 2007 | | 4:01 pm |
Superbowl Sunday
I must begin this post stating the following: I don't give half a crap about football. A couple of V's friends are coming over in a few hours and we're all gonna hit the Pub for some wings and good times with the drunks at the bar. We don't REALLY know these people, but they're always there. I'm starting to think they sleep there. We go there once a week or so for a pint and the same peeps are there, so we're friendly and so are they so yeah. It's like an instant party at this tiny little joint and it can be fun. That's what we're doing. V hit King Kullen before and picked up some junk foods and I made cookies this morning. Ramble ramble!!!!! Current Mood: ready to party! | | Friday, February 2nd, 2007 | | 12:05 am |

I'm finally enjoying a couple of days off. My internship ended on the 20th... then I had school and several family holiday parties to throw at my house... I was running around like a maniac, shopping for food to cook, cooking the food, baking things... it it really caught up to me. I became exhausted. I slept til noon today and I'm feeling SO much better. No school tomorrow, thank god. If we had school tomorrow I wouldn't be going. I just need a break! And I've been meaning to put pics up... school work, St. Martin trip, Chica Weener dog. I'm gonna try and get around to that real soon. OH, we had the computer room renovated! We had a big sliding glass door put in the wall, the nasty shag carpet ripped up and the wood floor sanded, walls painted, etc. Now we're going to get some new furniture. I really like the wall unit shelving systems over at this site... http://www.issdesigns.com/index.html Tonight I am going to the Islander game with V. Not my favorite thing in the world to do (I'd rather see a movie or something) but he got free tix and asked me to go. We don't have plans for New Years Eve and we don't care. I sure don't. I'd be happy having a few pints at the local pub we frequent and calling it an early night. Like I said, I've been mad tired. HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone! My plans for the new year are to exercise a lot and find a job. |
