CMMG Inc. is an American firearms manufacturing company headquartered in Boonville, Missouri. Founded in 2002, the company manufactures AR-15- and AR-10-pattern rifles, pistols, firearm components, and suppressors.[1]

Corporate history

CMMG was founded in February 2002 in Fayette, Missouri, by brothers John and Jeff Overstreet alongside Gretchen and Stephanie Overstreet.[1] Initial operations began as an assembly enterprise located on the family farm, primarily supplying parts and compliant accessories for AR-pattern firearms.[1] By 2006, the business added full-time staff and expanded into in-house component fabrication and machining.[1]

In 2016, CMMG relocated its headquarters and manufacturing operations 25 miles south to Boonville, Missouri, acquiring a vacant industrial plant formerly occupied by electrical heater manufacturer Indeeco.[2] The $2.5 million expansion brought approximately 50 manufacturing jobs to Boonville.[2][3][4]

According to Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) data compiled by Shooting Industry Magazine, CMMG produced 28,121 firearms in 2022, placing it among the larger domestic rifle and pistol producers in the United States that year.[5]

Engineering and platform designs

CMMG manufactures firearms across several caliber configurations, specializing in non-standard chamberings for the AR platform.[1]

Mk47 platform

In 2014, CMMG introduced the Mk47 Mutant, a mid-sized rifle chambered in 7.62×39mm. The platform was engineered to accept standard AK-47 magazines by using an enlarged bolt and receiver layout derived from the AR-10 while retaining standard AR-15 control features.[6][7]

Radial Delayed Blowback

The company developed and patented a Radial Delayed Blowback operating mechanism for pistol-caliber applications, first introduced in 2017 with the MkG series chambered in .45 ACP.[8] The mechanism utilizes chamfered locking lugs on the bolt head that rotate before opening, delaying blowback action to decrease reciprocating bolt mass and felt recoil compared to traditional direct blowback systems.[1][8]

CMMG categorizes its primary firearm builds into distinct product families, including the Banshee (compact handguns and short-barreled rifles), Resolute (carbines), and Dissent (bufferless upper receiver systems).[1][9]
