Drafts

Please note that drafts in draftspace are not allowed to be filed in categories alongside finished articles in mainspace, per WP:DRAFTNOCAT. Drafts must stay out of mainspace categories so long as they remain in draft, and this is not an optional or flexible or negotiable rule at all.

I've had to pull a couple of dozen drafts created by you out of categories today alone, so please do not refile any of them in categories and do not file any future draft creations in categories.

Also, even if the pages were in mainspace, please familiarize yourself with how our category system works. For instance, individual people do not go directly into the gendered categories Category:Men or Category:Women — we have so many articles about people that those categories would be utterly useless if they were actually meant to directly contain every article about a man or a woman that we have, because they would each have hundreds of thousands of articles in them and thus be completely unbrowsable and unmaintable. There are, however, various gendered subcategories, such as Category:German women politicians or Category:German male writers — a person can go in whichever of those are appropriate, but Category:Men or Category:Women themselves are only supposed to contain the subcategories, and are not meant to directly include any individual articles at all.

By a similar token, a German person might go in Category:German artists or Category:German women politicians or whatever, but does not go directly into Category:German people itself, because again that would also be a massively unbrowsable clusterbomb of a megacategory if it directly contained every individual article we have about any German person. So, again, people go in various appropriate subcategories of that, such as for their occupation, gender, time period, hometown or other characteristics, but do not go directly into Category:German people itself.

Hey, thanks for the heads up and for the patient explanation, and sorry for the trouble I inadvertently caused you!

As you can no doubt tell, I'm very new to creating and translating Wikipedia pages, so I appreciate being told these kinds of things. Unfortunately I still don't have the permissions to even publish the pages I am translating, so they have to remain drafts until further notice (ie, until a more experienced user can check them off), but I can certainly adjust my category tagging in future to stick to the rules and make life easier for helpful folk like yourself.

Do you suggest that, in future translations I do, I completely remove all the Category tags before hitting Publish As Community Draft?

Also, just as a further note on my use of Categories so far - I had admittedly been simply transferring and translating the Categories from the pages I had been translating. I assumed that the originals surely did it correctly and it wouldn't need any adjustment. (For instance, 'Clarita Müller-Plantenberg' had been [and still is] in the Category:Frau [Women] and Category:Deutscher [German people] on the German version) Is that a fault on behalf of the de.wikipedia users? Do you recommend I remove those categories on the German Wiki versions as part of my translation, to reduce that kind of megacategory nightmare you describe?
