"Federation seat" in Joel Fitzgibbon article

Hello Steelkamp, I'm following my edit of "In 2015 the Australian Electoral Commission announced plans to abolish the federation seat of Hunter as part of a redistribution", in which I changed "federation" to federal", and your response to it: "not a typo, "federation seat" means it was one of the original seats created in 1901".

I readily admit my ignorance of that usage. I doubt whether many people are aware of it either. It isn't explained anywhere in the article, nor in the article titled "Electoral system of Australia". My suggestion, therefore, is that you insert a note explaining the term -- something like "... an electoral division (federal electorate) that has existed continuously since the federation of the Australian colonies in 1901" would also cover the significance of 1901 -- and a reference supporting it. Removing citations on St Albans railway station, Melbourne

Marcus Wong and Vicsig are not reliable sources. And Grokipedia is even worse (anything you find on Grokipedia is probably straight up taken from Wikipedia, not to mention the problems with a source that is purely generated by AI). Steelkamp (talk) 09:28, 13 July 2026 (UTC)

Self published source, yes. But that also states that it can be used if the person publishing them is an expert. Marcus Wong has been in the field for over 20 years and Vicsig is made up of several current and late workers from the railway field. LachlanTansey (talk) 09:37, 13 July 2026 (UTC)

For Marcus Wong. Yes, his work has been published before independently, I can't currently list them off the top of my head but I have seen them. For Vicsig, I'd have to disagree again. Karnup status

I see today that the Western Australian government has announced funding or atleast preliminary funding for a station at Karnup. I hate to keep pressing this issue but one of the main issues from your AfD to merge the Karnup station article was that it was not funded. Now that it is, I feel that now is an appropriate time to reinstate the article. I just wanted your opinion on this matter. LachlanTansey (talk) 07:50, 2 August 2026 (UTC)

@LachlanTansey: Only $10 million has been committed for planning, and there is no federal funding, which is required for the station to go ahead. The promise to build the station is a good step towards Karnup station becoming an article though. I think what it would take to create the article is a development application being released or a project definition plan. Steelkamp (talk) 03:30, 3 August 2026 (UTC)

Karnup Station (not Karnup railway station) has been turned back into an article again by @LakelessLands. I've asked for a WP:RM/TR move to Karnup railway station due to the possibility of the article staying due to additional sources/information.
