Verity is a Canadian animated horror web series created by YouTuber ThatMob and set within the video game Minecraft. The series and related media became the subject of an internet meme among Generation Alpha.

Media

The Verity YouTube series was created by ThatMob. In the first episode, released in May 2026, ThatMob's self-insert protagonist meets Verity, an in-game virtual assistant resembling a yellow smiley face.^[1] The character of Verity, is voiced by YouTuber JustWhispy. Verity becomes increasingly invasive, reciting details about ThatMob's personal life before transforming into a hostile humanoid monster.^[2]

Fellow YouTuber, Horror Skunx created a song and accompanying music video called "It's Me, It's Verity" based on the series.^[1] Multiple Minecraft mods featuring Verity have seen been created, three of which received support from ThatMob.^[3]

Reception

The original series and Horror Skunx's music video each received over twenty million views,^[1] and several related Minecraft mods received millions of downloads.^[3] As part of an internet meme that gained popularity among Generation Alpha, yellow smiley faces and words ending with the suffix -ity trigger associations with Verity and the Verity song.^[1]^[4] Coincidentally, an unrelated thriller film called Verity began promotion around the same time, prompting memes from fans. In a September 2026 short-form promotional video for the film, starring actress Anne Hathaway referenced Horror Skunx's lyrics.^[4]^[5]

Natasha Hinde of HuffPost classified Verity as brain rot akin to Ballerina Cappuccina.^[4] Owen Carry of USA Today said that Verity memes "could be the new '6-7'", andattributed its popularity to "corporate horror", a genre comprising the Backrooms and the YouTube series Skibidi Toilet. He also connected the series to fears surrounding AI, comparing Verity to the shoggoth, a monster often depicted hiding behind a smiley face as a metaphor for AI.^[1] Nyla Gilbert of Den of Geek attributed its popularity to the use of independent and interactive media. She compared the character of Verity to Nikki Freeman from the 2025 horror film Obsession.^[2]
