Subject:expired warrantee
Time:4:06 pm.
Mood: aggravated.
This month I have a follow-up visit with my reumatologist who has diagnosed me with lupus, psoriosis and possible liver problems. Can't evem remember when I last had a drink! Will be seeing a dermatologist next month and having knee replacement surgery the month after.

Right now my daughter and her boyfriend won't let me drive because I avoided a squirrel on the road and sideswiped a brick mailbox. Thank heaven for really good car insurance.

I used to be like the All Mother, but now I'm feeling more like the Crone!

Time:6:01 pm.
It looks like I was posting here a lot longer than I thought!

No, I'm not absentminded...much. I now have a notebook and a calendar to keep track of my days.

Subject:Long gone. Sorry to my friends
Time:5:18 pm.
It has been a busy couple of years for me so I lost touch with all y'all. Lo siento mucho.

My last entry may have been about having major surgery two years ago. It was done in South Miami and needed a six month recouperation. In April of this year, I had a full knee replacement from which I am fully recouperated.

Also in that time, my youngest daughter moved in with her son and three cats while her Coast Guard husband was finishing a tour in FL and they transferred to the Oregon coast. Since I was going to be needing help with my recovery after knee surgery, my oldest daughter moved in. But my youngest daughter left their three cats behind. Tra and I looked at each other and said 'no way!', loaded the cats in the car and drove to Oregon in five days! (that wat the summer of '09).

We stayed in Oregon visiting family until the beginning of October and then drove back - more slowly.

That is the first part of my saga-in-a-nutshell.

Time:5:07 pm.
Mood: content.
Do you do any banking on your smartphone? If yes, what do you do? If not, what's holding you back?

I don't have or want a smart phone. I'm happy with a brick.

Time:1:31 pm.
Mood: cold.
Tra is finally recovering and I am better too. We should be able to leave tomorrow (God willing and the roads don't ice!)

Today I was walking my dog, didn't see the uneven sidewalk and fell flat on my hands and knee. Thank goodness it was my good knee! I'm afraid it would have broken into pieces if it had been my bad knee - there is no cartiledge left in it and everything is out of place.

Think I'll snuggle with my dog after I put the laundry in. Tra's ex keeps the house set at 50 when no one's home. I just jacked up the thermostat but it will probably take awhile to warm up. Current outdoor temp is 27 degrees here.

Time:10:39 am.
Mood: sick.
We are supposed to be going back to FL today, but I understand it is almost as cold there right now! Tra and I are both dog sick - coughing, wheezing stuffy, sneezing. The only way I could sleep yesterday was propped half up. At least at my home, I don't have germy kids traipsing through my living space and I don't have to slog through snow walking the dog. Life is always interesting and full of changes of one kind or another!

Subject:On the road again!
Time:10:23 am.
Mood: amused.
This summer, my youngest daughter and her family moved from Key West to the coast of Oregon. My oldest daughter moved in with me because I needed some help getting around and couldn't drive. I'm scheduled for knee replacement surgery and abdominal repair surgery, so it looks like my life will not be my own for awhile. The surgeries have been postponed until I get the okay from a cardiologist because the anesthesiologist didn't like my EKGs

So instead of lying around in hospitals, my oldest daughter and I packed up my youngest daughter's cats in my car and drove from Florida to the coast of Oregon. We left the end of July and got back the end of October. My parents and sibs are all in Oregon and Washington state so we had a good visit.

Since then, we've been up to Virginia to pick up my oldest daughter's son and spend Christmas with my youngest son and his family. We are now on our way to bring my daughter's son back to CT to stay with his father for the last of his middle school and hopefully he will decide when this school year is over to move in with us.

Isn't it interesting to have a mobile life style?

A Blessed Christmas to all of you and may the new year shine bright.

My daughter and I are with my youngest son and his family and my daughter's only chick. The logistics of getting him here were a little complicated. Please keep your fingers crossed that when we have to bring him back to meet his father 'halfway', it's not actively snowing.

Time:1:20 pm.
So happy to see that some of my friends are still around. I should probably change my name to 'creaky old broad' because I've been falling apart piece by piece. It's gotten to the poing where I'm not allowed to drive most of the time and one of my children is living with me now.

They talked me into joining Facebook, but it turns out that too much information is too accessible there. If I have something to post to my family from now on, I'll copy it from here and paste it there. As Nonna would say, 'Que dramatica!'

Right now we need to shop for a few things, so I'll post more later.

Subject:to tree or not to tree
Time:8:22 pm.
While in Key West, I fell in love with a couple of the trees there. I'd like to put one - a flaming poinciana - in my back yard to provide shade to the back of my house. Unfortunately, they are extremely messy at times.

If you were my neighbor, would you hate me for the mess the tree creates at times or would you consider it worth it for the beauty and shade it provides?

Subject:mea culpa
Time:11:39 pm.
Lots of stuff has been going on in the last six months. As much as I hated to leave my li'l dragon lover and her extremely interesting spouse and excessively cute infant son, it was time to come home.

The list of things that need doing is practically endless and, unfortunately will probably take a nearly endless amount of time to get them done:

The kitchen is almost organized and I've started sorting out stuff for garage sales and 'gifting'. I really don't need service for 12 dinnerware, so a service for four will be offered for sale.

My bedroom needs the most work for now, I think. Since I lost so much weight while I was sick, not only clothes that fit before are too big, but some clothes that were slightly too small before are now too big as well! Still, I'll probably hang on to my 3X shortalls for now even though XL would be more appropriate. They're still the most comfortable things to do house and yard work in.

I'm still of two minds about what to do with the house. It needs some work to make it nicely comfortable and a bit more than that to make it like I would like it to be. My options are to sell it 'as is', fix it up enough to sell it for the going price around here or fix it up in such a way that I could rent out half and get an income out of it.

The last could be a little 'iffy' if I plan on travelling still.

We'll see

Subject:Good read!
Time:6:23 pm.
S M Stirling writes books about alternate histories. The first book of his I found was called The Sky People. The premiss is that, in the '60's, the US and the USSR sent probes - one country's went to Venus, the other's went to Mars - and found life on both planets! Intelligent life. I am now waiting for the second book to come out in paperback.

When I was checking for other books by him at B & N, I found another series. It caught my eye because one of the books is titled A Meeting In Corvallis, which is my hometown. If you've ever wondered what would happen to the world if modern technology was suddenly turned off, if you've ever wondered if the SCA and other re-creation groups have any real value and if you've ever wondered if there's a place for Wiccan's and others who revere the earth and nature, you should read this series. The first in the series is Dies the Fire.

Subject:eleven weeks? Yikes!!!
Time:11:55 pm.
Mood: sleepy.
Time flies when your life is on hold, I guess. Currently, I'm in Key West - got here the end of March and watched my youngest grandson be born early in the morning on April 1st. He is the offspring of my youngest daughter and her husband, aka as alildragonlover and hisholiness. They are kind enough to let me spend lots of time holding him and admiring him.

The other reason I came down here was to have major surgery. It will be done the beginning of June. Turns out it can't be done here - the hospital here is too small to have the kind of surgeon I need. It will be done in South Miami instead.

Since I got here, I've taken lots of pictures of interesting plants here. I also need to get some of the roosters that roam around. They are protected here!. Also, I have finished two afghans and am trying to finish a king-size quilt and have started baking (and mostly giving away to neighbors) cookies. I'll post the recipes when I can and pictures of the baby and maybe the afghans when I have them on internet.

Hope my friends all enjoyed the long weekend!

Subject:home again!!!
Time:9:43 pm.
Actually, I got home Thursday night and discovered I'd arrived smack in the middle of Bike Week! It made for an interesting time at the flea market on the weekend - I had to go so I could buy flea stuff for the dog and cats at cost from ARNI.

My computer finally became functional this afternoon. I had to replace the keyboard because the old one got fried in a collision between one of my cats and my coffee cup. Once that was replaced, I still couldn't get online because the router seemed incapable of updating the IP address. After talking to my older son, I took the router out of the works since mine is the only computer in use here at home.

Anyway, hello to all. I'll catch up tomorrow with all my friends.

Subject:movin' on...
Time:1:41 pm.
Tomorrow, the Good Lord willing and weather permitting, I will be on the road again, this time travelling south. Apparently none of my children are happy about me travelling by myself but I'm a sensible person and aware of my current limitations.

After a short stop at home where I will pay some bills, cancel some services temporarily and arrange for mail forwarding, I will be heading about as south as one can get in Florida: sunny Key West.

My son and dil (with whom I am currently staying) have volunteered to take my daughter's dog for awhile, but their young son does not understand living animals cannot be treated like stuffed ones. He already has a scratch on his cheek from messing with one of their cats. A 60+ lb. cross between a greyhound and a Rhodesian ridgeback could do a lot more damage to a 2 yr. old if her buttons were pushed enough. So I'm keeping Harri with me and will deal with any difficulties that arise later.

Subject:sushi heaven
Time:4:04 pm.
Since I sort of have to stay with one or another of my children for the next couple of months, it's a blessing that both couples love to eat, make and go out for sushi. I could eat it every day but am too lazy to make it every day and too cheap to get it as take-out or go to a sushi bar. My youngest son's children love to eat it and my youngest daughter's son will probably do the same when he gets past the rice cereal stage.

Speaking of which, alildragonlover's and hisholiness's unborn child now weighs in at approx. 6 lbs. and still has six weeks to go before he's 'ripe' enough to pick.

*grins*

I'll be there in about two or three weeks. Really looking forward to seeing them and to trading VA weather for FL weather, but will really miss the daily adventure that is this family!

Subject:giant kudos to...
Time:12:44 pm.
grandparents who step in and raise their children's children. After spending ten days with my most boisterous grandchildren, I can say emphatically that I probably couldn't do it.

These two are active, bright, curious, smart and...bouncy!!! and I love them to bits but I don't think I could stay sane if I had them 24/7 'til they grew up.

Parenthood is for the young for a reason.

Subject:drama is...
Time:2:26 pm.
...the spice of life!

If any of my friends are also friends with alildragonlover, you will see from her recent posts that we are having a family drama enacted right now. I guess that the reason my children get along with each other so well now that they're adults is they each have a separate area of geography to call their own: one in New England, one in Central Atlantic, one in Northern Midwest, one in the Deep South and one now in Switzerland. I try not to rock that boat too often because we all have a 'high drama' streak and some of us appear docile usually but have hidden fangs.

The current bones of contention are my surgery and my Swiss daughter's dog (who had to be left behind with me temporarily). If I have my surgery in my home city in Central Florida, I have no close friends or relatives to help me through the recovery period. My choices were to take myself to the Pacific Northwest and stay with parents or a sib (along with my dog and 2 cats) but that would put me too far away from my youngest, who is expecting in April; or to stay with my youngest son's family with him, his wife and his two very intellegent, very active preschoolers; or to stay with my pregnant youngest daughter so we can help each other for the next couple of months or three. The last option is, IMHO, the best one because it would be a mutually helpful situation. The dog is the only fly in the ointment. Last night I called her and told her that Harri would either be put in a kennel for the times when there were too many people around (when she acts like a ten-month-old dog instead of the 10 yr old dog she is). If that doesn't work, there are 'cabins' on base that can be rented for vacation stays. They are furnished with everything needed - furniture, bedding, pots, dishes, etc. and are usually very reasonable - charges are based on the military rank of the renter.

Any of that would work. I just want everyone to be happy and okay with each other!
