Rec Expl.: This story has a basis in reality (Greek pederasty traditions) which makes this particular story all the more compelling. This tale gives way to rising emotions that plague Harry Potter as he is suddenly dealt a card by Fate, one he had no idea that existed. As he learns about ancient traditions and receives proposals, he not only begins to learn about history but he begins to learn and understand who “he” is and what he himself expects from this thing called life. Sometimes you need to be brave in life. And sometimes, the bravest thing to do is to live your life on your own terms, no matter what anyone else might think or whatever pressure you’re under.

Rec Expl.: This is a very detailed and believable AU. Not only are we given a background on who/what/how everything develops, it also has an excellent plot. The characters are true to those in J.K. Rowling’s universe, yet they seem to grow in this AU as people/characters. You never once think that this couldn’t have been the way that things might have happened, if it hadn’t been for those seemingly random events. I love the way Sam managed to create such intricate backgrounds and yet keep the story flowing. Whenever I reread the arc, I always manage to discover something new or reinterpret it. These stories are magnificent, if you haven’t read them yet, you’ve been missing out!

Rec Expl.: This is a classic in the Harry Potter genre. And while I’ve never really searched for Draco/Harry fics, you must have read this one. I don’t care if it isn’t really your pairing, this is more then about the nature of this pairing, people! You see, this gives a portrait of believable characters in an excellently written story with a superb plot. Now really, who cares about gender and pairings in a situation like that. Go! Read! And thank the author when you’re finished – you know it’ll be deserved praise.

Rec Expl.: lovely long tale about how difficult the concept of Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy as something similar to friends would be. Not only are Death Eaters, Voldemort, teachers, friends and fellow students giving them a hard time – they aren’t exactly matching personalities. I love this story because it portrays something real. Things don’t always go right, things don’t always work themselves out. You’ve got to work hard to achieve your goals, and sometimes – not even that is good enough. This story asks for your iinvolvement, but you’ll get so much more in return.

Lex does, and while he gains things he could have never dreamed off, he loses so much as well. Lex has a dream, and that dream makes you cry, smile and hope. Be ready to have your heart shattered. Be ready to have it put back together. Be ready, because this story demands your attention and all of your emotional reflexes. Be ready to loose yourself and be ready to be happy about it.

Rec Expl.: This is a lovely story that deals with who Strife really is. It deals with his emotions, it deals with the trouble he unerringly brings about, it deals with the relationships he has with and in the mortal and the Olympian world. Strife’s parentage is also discovered and Strife finds out that the saying ‘be careful what you wish for’ has a solid foundation. This fic is a beauty and unique in many ways. The things that are common in fanon are written exquisitely and never once will you get bored when reading it.

Rec Expl.: These multichaptered fic gives you the history of the friendship between Cupid and Strife. As you read these fics, you’ll be enchanted with their upbringing and their experiences. As time passes by and they grow up – they begin to realize that they will never be completely the same, but they also begin to understand that they can never survive without their other half. This story arc so plausible that you slowly but surely consider this to be canon. The writing style is amazing, not once so you feel that a character is out of character and yet so many different facets of Olympian life are revealed here. This story line is a gem, a treasure – if you haven’t read it, what are you waiting for?

Rec Expl.: This fic isn’t very long but it has all the characteristics to be a classic. In fact, in my eyes, it is a classic. If you haven’t read this story, you’ve been missing out on some wonderful angst, wonderfully portrayed Clark/Lex. Their inherent conflict is brought to light once and for all; in fear of losing each other, they actually push the other away.

Title: Three Impossible Things

Rec Expl.: Change is the centrepiece in this story. It all revolves around change. Clark realizes that not everything will go the way he wants it to, not everything turns out the way he imagined it, and sometimes he can only be grateful that he can’t predict the future. Change, for better or worse.
It’s a surprisingly honest piece of work, where baseline Lex and Clark are revealed to themselves and each other. This one aches in a very attractive manner.
It’s all about possessiveness, confusion, rage, heartbreaking, honesty, hurting, pleasure winning and losing.
Be sure to give this fic the attention and respect it deserves.

Rec Expl.: 9 stories in this series. If you haven’t read this series, then you haven’t read one of the best pieces of AU fic out there. AU but still very canonlike in a Smallville way, and really, you need to read it because there is just no summary that can do justice to this jewel.

Title: If you’re breathing

Rec Expl.: oh, this one aches. It gets under your skin and stays there to haunt you. It is a short piece of literary art in my opinion. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read this fic, because I truthfully lost count. This one sucks you in, latches on and never ever lets you go. Not many people can write like this, less can write a decent Harry, let alone a believable Neville, and very few can produce a gem like this one. I know the pairing is an unusual one to most of you, but it works, it so works. Nev/Harry has been a secret weakness of mine, but with this emotive and striking fic I gladly relinquish the secrecy for recognition. This was my first foray in the world of H/N and it convinced me of the possibility immediately. If you think that Nev/Harry can’t possibly work, give this fic a chance. You’ll gladly board this ship. Go read, now! And don’t give me that S*** about it not being your pairing, this just ‘Is’. Shoo!

I also love that this fic shows us a Neville Longbottom that we knew existed but never understood. This fic makes you ache for the lad. It makes you see what you were once too wilfully blind to recognize. It makes you see that not everything can be sunshine and roses. It makes you remember that in J.K. Rowling’s world, even death has its place.

Title: Transfigurations

Yet, now that Hogwarts is reopening, Harry finally comes home. Of course, nothing is what it seems at Hogwarts leaving Harry to face a few hard truths – not to mention the surprises the Death Eaters left behind during the occupation.

Sequel: No, but there is a sort of prequel about Neville and his entanglement with Severus Snape, written by Julad. One of the best N/S I have ever read, one of the best stories tout court. (see rec: Night-blooming Heartsease)
Rec Expl.: I reread this story every so often. I must have read it over a dozen times and it never fails to wreak havoc with my psyche. You’ll cry and laugh, smile and chuckle. You’ll feel sorry and hate. You go through the proverbial wringer and you’ll be glad that you did.

In the end, we all have to grow up.
