President Grievance’s paid and unpaid supporters have not been having an easy time of it:  no one has forgotten about the Epstein files, his obsession with the ballroom is now a liability, the reflecting pool is still green, the UFC fight ended on a shocking and unwelcome note, oh and he surrendered to Iran.

MAGA needed another topic of outrage and so Capgate was born. Right wing social media influencers have been complaining about Pride month for weeks now, but MLB put out a statement that they all focused on:

The collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between MLB and the MLBPA states that players who violate uniform regulations will first receive warnings, specifying that they will be subject to further discipline if they do not “immediately cease violating” the regulations.

“The writing on the cap violates our rules, and consistent with normal practice, we have warned the players about future violations,” MLB said in a statement.

Here’s what you need to know as the lies from the right continue to swirl. First, the players and the league agreed to not alter their uniforms without permission in their collective bargaining agreement. The details begin on page 227 and go on for pages.

So the players agreed not to deface or alter their uniforms because they agreed to it as a players’ union, and each of them signed a contract to that effect. And in fact, one of the players opted to wear one of the standard caps and he was not included in the warning. Why? Because he didn’t childishly deface his uniform. That’s all you need to know. The players knew the rules going in, they had an option to not participate, and instead they chose to break the rules.

It’s important to note that the rule about defacing uniforms applies to any and everything you might write, attach, inscribe, print, embroider, and/or Bedazzle on any part of the uniform. But because right wing Christians in the US are under the delusion that they are persecuted they began lying that this was targeted at them, leading to this nonsense from Florida’s Attorney General:

If you are a sentient being it is clear that Christianity is not under attack in the US. The current administration is busy shoving their narrow sectarian travesty of Christianity down everyone’s throats, from having showy prayer meetings at the White House to the demented ramblings of the Secretary of Defense.

Furthermore, there is nothing in the Bible that condemns LGBTQ+ people as we understand those words today. Nothing. Now wingnut Christians will quote the same passages over and over as truth, but the actual truth is that none of those passages are referring to what we understand as sexual orientation today. And none of their “love the sinner, hate the sin” crap validates their bigotry, because Jesus told his followers to hold off on judging others because the planks in our own eyes keep us from seeing clearly. He also told them to love our neighbors as ourselves, but is a bridge way too far for these extremists.
