| | accomplished | ] | Wondering if anyone was around. I've changed some eating patterns, managed to find a gym out here in the middle of nowhere, and have been lifting. I used to lift years ago and I got many bennies from it but I haven't in years. Trashed knees, lack of funds, lack of a gym within a 30 mile radius, and just plain apathy kind of killed that. I was ordered by orthopedics to strengthen my quads (I have chondromalacia patellae which means "worn-out trashed cartilage under kneecaps") but had to wait until I recovered enough from cataract surgery (left eye in February, right eye in March) to start.
I'm seeing some changes-- my three guts look less like a stack of tires and the bottom two are starting to meld into one. I still have a long way to go and a lot of body fat to get rid of. Finding a set of measurements from April of '06 and comparing them to measurements I took last month showed me that I've actually gone a long way. I was freaking a bit-- I thought, "waitaminnit, did I mix up my bust measurement with my waist measurement, no way was my gut that big!" If I had pictures from two years ago, I'd post them.

My scale was wrong.
I was just given a digital scale and it's telling me I weigh 136 lbs. OMG, that's a lot more than my old scale was telling me. It certainly explains why my clothes aren't fitting right.
I've been going along with what my old scale told me in complete denial of the obvious. It's time to start cuttin' back on calories again.
I guess the issue here is that I think I'm pretty darned cute, even with an extra inch or two..... But an extra inch can turn into an extra 3 inches, and it happens pretty fast on my little frame, so I have to be careful.
Back to my-calorie-counter.com then. Pooh. |

I thought I'd post a couple of my staple recipies for you guys. I've only been eating a couple of hundred calories for my supper each night. I found that I sleep a LOT better without being terribly full and so, do most of my eating in the day, leaving only a couple of hundred calories for my evening meal.
Apologies for the vegan-ish recipes. I've cut out most of my dairy.
So... anyhow on to the recipes

One more post from me today and that's it, I promise :)
It's important when you're dieting to keep yourself from feeling deprived, as that can lead to binging.
Rather than focusing on a list of taboo foods, try listing foods that would be most helpful to eat, and work on lengthening that list by doing research on proper nutrition.
Brown rice is more nutritious and will keep you feeling full much longer than white rice. Same goes for whole grain flour as opposed to white, so go for whole wheat pasta and bread, sprouted grain bread, or other grains like spelt or kamut.
Whole fruits are packed with fiber and will also be more filling than fruit juice or soda. In fact there's really no need to drink anything that contains sugar.... I stick to water, coffee and tea.
If you like dairy products, keep in mind that it's just the saturated fat and sugar in there that you don't want, so watch the portion size and go for low-fat versions.
Chocolate is good for you! Try dark chocolate rather than milk, and just have a bite or two rather than a whole bar. I always have a cup of hot black coffee with my chocolate and it is one of the great joys of my life.
All green veggies are a must. In fact, you can eat most veggies by the truckload and you'll be doing yourself a big favor.
Olive oil is so wonderful. Get into the habit of having some everyday. Like bread and butter? Try bread dipped in olive oil.
...and this is one thing I hardly have to think about anymore because it's almost too obvious - poultry and fish! Lots of chicken, turkey, tuna, halibut, you name it. |

| Body Mass Index |

Hey, everyone I noticed everyone's got a goal weight, and I wanted to bring up the subject of BMI or body mass index... If your weight loss plans are more aesthetic than health oriented you may not even know what a healthy weight is for your body type... My initial motivation for losing weight came from finding out that I was risking diabetes and heart disease by being overweight... especially since I'm no spring chicken anymore ;-)
How much extra weight is dangerous for you? Find out by calculating your BMI:
http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/
Right now I'm riding the line at 24.9 and would rather have a comfort zone of two or three points lower than that. Also it's good to make note of the minimum score as well.... going below a score of 18 can be dangerous... you'll stop menstruating, lose bone and muscle, etc. |

I'm trish. I used to be 100 pounds, then I skyrocketed to almost 200 pounds. Nothing seemed to help me until finally I simply cut out the bread, pasta and potatoes in my diet. (I was eating bread for breakfast, pasta for lunch and some sort of potato dealy for dinner..apparently that is bad lol)
I lost 40 pounds and then stopped trying for a while just because I had a hysterectomy and other operations last year.
The past 2 weeks I have been back on track and am feeling less bloated already :)
I will keep you updated. <3 |

Hi everyone.
I created this community so we could count on one another for support, tips, ideas and motivation within a close group of friends. I know there are many diet communities on LJ, however I (for one) would feel a little odd posting my life and soul on there for anyone to read. I'm hoping that we can all lend a helping hand to one another here. The community membership will be moderated, so I have to approve people before they join; I'd rather not have just anyone walking in here and seeing my personals :)
If you like, feel free to set your posts to friends only viewing. I'm going to.
Thanks
Cattie :) |
