2023 goals in review
I didn't set any major goals for the year - in January I set a sensible set of goals for the month and then intermittently through the year did variations -- some more reasonable than others.
I did set an overall set of reading goals
Goal one was to read 52 books (done), and that those be books I own (from those catalogued, 31 ETA: this is of the ones added to the catalogue in 2023; when I went back there were quite a few others).
Goal two was to read everything I acquired, and not only did I not achieve that, I made a deliberate decision partway through the year to abandon that as not realistic or reasonable -- I added 221 books to the catalogue, although not all of those are 'mine', or things I'm going to read. And at least one of them is a reference, and so it might be a while before I investigate it (although, as it is about mending, and I've gone through multiple trousers, I might look at what it has for me on that).
Stretch goal of 'finish everything I start' (where DNF counts) didn't really happen, although I'm slowly working my way back, and I'm pretty happy with the way that is going. The other of having my currently active at 5 books or fewer didn't happen, but again, I'm making slow progress getting there, and it is better if I don't bulk DNF books, because I will pick them back up again, and then they are back on the currently reading.
The task to read a book I've had for the longest time -- I started Window to Bushland, got roughly 3/4 of the way through, and then just stopped. As each chapter is a self-contained essay, it was really easy to just abandon. I have intentions to go back and work out what I think of the bits I've read, and then finish it, but that isn't on the January list.
