 | 09:15 pm - Core Values This is long, so I'm going to put it behind a cut line, but I wanted to point out the similarities in core values between the Civil Air Patrol and the Dorsai Irregulars.

 | 05:54 pm - ConFluence scheduling I'm going to be staying-over Sunday night of ConFluence, because Randy Hoffman has offered me a concert on Sunday afternoon.
I'm therefore in the market for a Sunday-night roomsplit. I don't smoke, I use a CPAP, and I'm comfortable with a mixed group as long as I whoever I share a mattress with is female. I can bring an inflatable bed, if all the official mattresses are already claimed.
I'll be driving to the convention, overnighting both directions with the Suttons in Danville. I'm open to a ride-share from somewhere thereabouts or between Danville/Indy and Pittsburgh, traveling Friday and Monday. The pickup only has one seat, but has a camper shell over the back end so luggage / instruments space is not a worry.

 | 12:46 am - Photos needed A publisher will be hosting a webcomics version of Duncan and Mallory -- and as you may remember, two of the scoundrels in it are Bob Asprin and myself. I've tried my hand at drawing him recently, but my hands and memory are not very good at the moment and it's been over 15 years since I last did any caricature. (come to think of it, I'm not that good at drawing myself lately, but at least I have a fairly ready reference model.)
Can anyone help me out with scans of photos you might have? I already have the stuff that's on Internet. Would appreciate anything, really.

 | 09:51 am - Thing Over, Pants Bankrupt Successfully moved everything out of the hotel and put it away once it got home. ladyat is taking the bulk of the leftovers to the local food pantry and homeless shelter, which is in the building where she works.
Thanks to everyone who showed up, apologies again for the conflict with Consonance (just not very many weekends in Indianapolis that don't conflict with a major sporting event that eats hotel space).
Next year in Frankenmuth!

 | 05:40 pm - Roomie space available at Thing My husband Morris won't be able to come to Thing with me after all, which means that the McMurrays and I will have a spare half-mattress available for subletting. Male or female, but must be non-smoking and be able to tolerate OUR snoring.

 | 05:55 pm - Friend needs help with a survey Ganked from [ Error: Irreparable invalid markup ('<lj_user="meltatum">') in entry. Owner must fix manually. Raw contents below.] Ganked from <lj_user="meltatum">. I figure this community will have lots of opinions she can use.
My two worlds - my day job and filk - have collided in an exciting way, but in a way that causes me to reach out and ask for the assistance of the filk community.
Some of you know me - I started filking not quite two years ago, and in that time have written several songs and participated in filk circles at several conventions.
By day, I am a law professor. My specialty is American Indian tribal courts and tribal governments, but I also do some work in intellectual property and copyright. A call for papers has just gone out for a conference entitled Female Fan Cultures and Intellectual Property. My attention was captured by the fact that filk was explicitly listed as one of the topics they were interested in.
A colleague and I have proposed a paper that uses a questionnaire to collect empirical data. Now we need filkers and filk fans (of all genders) who are willing to take the questionnaire. The study is completely anonymous - we are not recording names or email addresses in the database.
If you would be willing to take the questionnaire (it has 15 questions), please contact me at melissaltatum AT yahoo DOT com and I'll send you an email with the questionnaire in it - all you have to do is send a reply with the answers. I'll extract the substance of the answers, paste them in the database and then delete the email - there will be no permanent record of names or email addresses.
Please feel free to forward this message to any filkers and/or filk fans.
Thanks! Mel Tatum
