Peepers are out here in Western NC. I suspect Wood Frogs and Pickerel Frog are out too, but I have had a head cold that has made me deaf, so all I can hear is the peepers. Full bore choruses in broad open daylight. |

Hello everyone! I've just started to hear the spring peepers every night. Also, just last night I heard a mountain chorus frog. What frogs have you heard this year? Include your state (ex. Florida, Ohio, etc.). I'm from Kentucky; anyone else from this region? |

Hi, I am new. I just learned about frogwatch. So cool!
I was wondering how big of a committment it is,... i.e. do I have to go every night, every week, etc..... I would love to do this, however I am already volunteering in 2 other organizations.... hence the question.
Is there anybody from Buffalo, ny?

It's almost frogwatching season again! Who's participating this year?
I moved last fall, so I'll have to set up a new site. Fortunately there's a good one right near my house - a little pond with a good population of reeds. |

A local Chapter of FrogWatch USA meets monthly at Camp Cullom (near Frankfort, IN) on the second Wednesday of each month. Meetings are open to anyone with an interest in helping conserve Frogs, Toads and Salamanders. Although FrogWatch USA is not required, it is encouraged. We meet at 7pm either in the Nature Center or the Lodge and have special guest speakers each month.
January 9 7-9pm-Todd Pierson, local Nature Photographer, Field Herper and FrogWatcher. His topic is "Indiana Field Herping"
February 13 7-9pm-Rick Marrs and Barry Hammer, Hoosier Herpetological Society They will show a video of their field herping with a special emphasis on the amphibians.
February 23 1-5pm-FrogWatch USA Training Workshop-Open to anyone that wants to learn more about FrogWatch USA and how to volunteer. There will be slide shows about the ins and outs of FrogWatch as well as the Indiana species.

Hi,
A couple weeks ago I was awarded a tadpole as a prize from a
game at a local fair. He (or she) is almost a full frog now, we're just
waiting for it's tail disappear.
I just need help
identifying what species this frog is, so I can better take care of it.
As a tadpole, i've been doing fine caring for it. Keeping it in a tank with cured water,
feeding it algae chips. But he's growing fast!
After the cut, there are photographs of the frog. Hopefully
you guys can help me out! I'm sure my frog (Abraham) would much
appreciate it as well.

| An unidentified frog already |

Figures. Only my third time out frogwatching and I've already heard a frog I can't identify. I'm in MA; there's a relatively short list of frogs in my state and none of the calls on the Frogwatch site quite match it.
It's a mid-pitched, "Gurk gurk! Gurk gurk!"
Rather ordinary-sounding, but I can't seem to find it.
I suspect it's one of the frogs listed, but making a call that's a variation of the calls on the recordings. If so, I can't guess which one. Or it could be another animal altogether, but it sounds very much like a frog. |
