Okay, I know I've been pretty quiet around here. I apologize. Lot of life drama going on, but I'll spare you the details.
By no means do I consider my an icon wizard- plug alert, that'd be my
friend Cel. But I did make a simple Sydney icon that I'm proud of, so I
thought I'd put it up.

The text I borrowed from Kelly Clarkson's "Behind These Hazel Eyes".
I'm not entirely sure if I used the best pic for that text, given that
Syd looks like she's about to cry there but hasn't quite reached the
breaking point. Still, I've recently endured a terrible break-up this
year, so I know the "torn into pieces" feeling quite well. I wanted
something that would capture the expression you make just before you
cut loose with the tears and pain and anger. Anyhow, comments are
welcome, and you're free to use the icon. I think I have the original
base and picture if anyone would like it.

This was kind of a hard cap for me to work with, but I got a crop I liked, so then it was all about the text. I started with a one-word concept, but then I didn't like the fit of the word to the image, so I chose 'wonder' which led me to John Crichton's speech from Farscape where he says 'you'll never know the wonders I've seen.' And somehow in my head it sounded like 'what wonders' so I went with it. =)

I had a hard time with this cap just because her expression is very neutral (in my mind), and you can't really tell who she is looking at if you crop it a lot unless you know what cap you started with. Still, I tried to stay in the Sweiss spirit and used text to the effect of "I couldn't see what was in front of me." ;-)

Just a cap to play with, from Season Three's Premiere "The Two"

I picked this cap for the next challenge, because first it is a Sweiss Cap, and second it has a nice angle to it. The upward tilt of her head is nice, but not overstated.
If you want to suggest a cap, or a scene suggest it HERE

| Change For the Better |
[25 Jan 2005|06:52am] |
So I started this community a while back. A long while back, and it has gone through a lot of changes. The thing is that I can't keep up with it. I love the idea of challenging people to make icons however there are communities that do it with much greater success rates, like the beloved alias_challenge. I can't fit the time to pick a cap, find a tutorial and post up a weekly challenge, and even the weeks that I do, the turnout is sort of sparce.
I thought about dropping the whole thing. However I am suffering separation anxiety over that one. So instead here is what I am doing.
Making some changes.
First Challenges will not be weekly. I don't have time for that, and most people with the new season are too busy flocking to the S4 caps to bother with one S1-3 cap from here. Especially since there is no contest here. So for the most part this place will slow to a crawl, but I shall not let it go away.
Second how_to_frost I am closing. Any tutorials I posted I am going to copy from there and post them to my personal journal (backdated of course) and will provide new links once they are over there. Anyone that cross posted a tutorial I will provide a link to there as well.
Third Member Participation. I am taking suggestions for images to be used in future challenges HERE Also if you run across a tutorial and think it is something of interest you can place it in that post as well. I will contact the author and ask if I can post a link to it.
Fourth Archive. In the past I have placed all of the caps for challenges in a Photobucket just for this place. However right now, I have started just placing the images on my own server. So the links for previous challenges I will be editing slowly but surely. However this means that all the images will be available. I will also be coming up with a master post where I will put links to all the previous images, as well as tutorials.
Fifth No longer will I post all the boring details with the post. By now if you make icons? You know the standards. I will simply put up a generic post with whatever image I found interesting or was suggested and that will be that. No more wasting your time with a large post with info you already know.
This being said, I am going to change over the user page. I am going to delete the sister journal, and start cleaning this place up a bit. I will also be posting some images this week for you to use.
Since there is no more timeline, you can simply browse the images as I post them, and use whichever ones you wish whenever you want. I will try to format the layout of the site so that the links to the master post are on the main page.
I hope you all understand and I hope you all still enjoy the challenges when I do actually post them up here.
Thanks for sticking with me!

Challenge #27 - Image
Image - Lauren and Vaughn
Create your icon(s) using this image only.
* I decided that with Season 4 fast approaching the I am going to toss out the guideline that I go episode by episode. Once the new season starts I will see what quality caps are out there and try to give you something to do based on the current episode that aired that week.
So keeping with the random caps I decided to go with the torture scene of Vaughn.... Ahh Lauren trying to get some reaction from Vaughn... with all her LIES!!!! Kidding aside, I love this cap and can't wait to see what you all do with it!
-- Take this cap and make as many icons as you like, using whatever techniques you want. -- Please post all icons you make in the same post. (you can always edit to add more) -- All icons must be to LJ standards, (100x100 no larger than 40K) -- You may post info on your icon, i.e. any techniques you used, or things you tried. -- You may ask for suggestions or critiques, and may offer them to others as well. -- Have Fun!!!
Challenge # 28 - Colors!!
So rather than try to hunt down a tutorial I think I am going to pick red and green! Since the holidays are coming!! So here is the challenge, create some icons with an overall tonal color of red or green. Have fun with the layers, color burn, tint it! Tone it! Hand color it! Just as long as Red and Green are the overall colors!!
Previous Challenge Images will Be held in The Pie Tin for safe Keeping.
If you would like to complete a challenge from an earlier post simply add it to your current with the most recent challenge icons.
Thanks and have fun!
This challenge will run until next Tuesday.

I shall begin with the mandatory greetings: First post here. Hi!
1. I'm not particularly happy with this icon but I think that's mostly because I was drawing a blank on witty isms for the text. As it is, it's Sark singing Christmas carols. Yes, the man is full of surprises. I'm working on a darker, richer look for my icons. Needless to say, it didn't work in this case ...
2. 3. 4. These were made with the stock pictures - and a new colour scheme. I like the colours. They're pretty. #2 and #3 are exactly the same save for borders and text. For those two, the stock images were blurred and used for colour and contrast. In #4 the stock picture was set on Hard Light for a brighter, more radiant look. That last one would have to be my favourite - except for the text. Don't like the text :P
I suppose I could make more but my inspiration is gone, all gone ...

OKay, so I thnk the best way for me to do this is just post up the one that I have finished so far. I have three others in progress, but I know that if I don't have this one post up staring at me I won't get anything else finished...

Guh! There! Not too happy with it. However it was a first run!
