Hey, new here. :]
I don't quite get what a 'server' is, but I think I was one?
I worked at New Zealand Natural for a year, which is like this ice cream / juice / smoothie place, and it doesn't sound long, but trust me. A year was way too long at that place. I ended up quitting because the assistant manager made me cry at work.
The job itself was okay, and you got some of the nicest people ever coming in as well as all our regulars. This girl I worked with and I used to have tipping contests where we used to see who could get the highest tips. She won with four dollars. [It's really rare for people to tip in Australia..]
But of course we had bitchy customers who think they can order you around like anything. On one of my nine hour shifts I had some ten year old girl drop her money down the front of the ice cream freezers once, which meant ten minutes of pulling the freezer out, finding her money, then pushing the freezer back in [and they're heavy as all fuck], then she gave me the wrong amount of money anyway, and then she complained that there was hair in her ice cream.
Me: I don't see anything.
Her: Well, there is.
Me: I'm sorry, but I can't see it, so there's really nothing I can do about it.
Her: I want a new ice cream.
Me: Look, I'm going home in five minutes, so I don't care whether you want a new ice cream, or not. Okay?
Her: .. I want to talk to the manager.
Me: Fine. But I am not making a new ice cream.
Which was a really bad way to handle the situation, but I was tired, sore, cranky, and I was quitting in a week, so I personally didn't care if she ever came back to the store anyway.
I'm currently looking for a job as a waitress at a local restaurant, so .. who knows? :]
