Research help...

I didn't see any rules posted for the comm, so I hope I'm not stepping on any toes, but I need some help here^_^;;

I'm not a waitress (and I don't want to be...honestly, I dunno how you guys manage to keep your sanity x_x), but I'm writing something, and I don't know how certain things work in your..erm..work. heh. If ANY of you are willing to help me out..I'm not sure what I can offer, besides gratitude, but if there' s anything you guys might request (barring sexual favors, of course) I'll see what I can do:D

the questions if you're willing:

1) how long are your shifts usually? I know most jobs are around 8 hours, but I know nothing about waitressing shifts.

2) how are your..."areas" set up? I've seen lil maps at IHOP where each section was a certain color and/or it had a number assigned to it, so I've got a kinda good idea on that, but do they have names like 'blue', or numbers, or what?

3) how are you assigned to those areas? is it based on what shift you're working, and/or do you ever get your choice of sections?

4) how many tables are you usually assigned? or is there even a set number at all?

5) if you work(ed) in a all night cafe/restaurant/etc, how many people usually worked the late night shift?

6) how many people usually worked each shift?
7) what was your busiest AND slowest shift?
8) what were your busiest AND slowest days?
9) Did you have to keep your hair tied back? I know cooks do, but I don't know about waitresses.

if any of you are college students, and still feeling helpful, here's a couple more questions:X

ESPECIALLY if you're in any government classes:

1) what kind of homework are you usually given? I've heard of thesis papers and labs, but what else? ^_^;;

2) labs are only done at the college, right? or do you do some research at home?

3) how long does each class usually last?

thanks in advance? :D
