Reformat the `frame_energies` match expression to reduce indentation and collapse the `spawn_capture_thread` function signature onto a single line. These are purely stylistic changes with no behavioural impact. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>

Duration gating also assumes one fixed WAV layout without validating it, creating a smaller compatibility risk. Suggested reviewers: Poem

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
Bound pending when frame_energies keeps failing.
On energy failure the code keeps the frames and retries. That is correct for a transient error. On a sustained module failure each successful prepare_frames still extends pending, then this path continues without drain. The capture queue bound does not limit pending. The processor can grow pending at full microphone rate until memory pressure.
Cap pending (drop oldest whole frames past a max) or clear pending after repeated energy failures. Keep the measure-before-drain order.

Add tests for bounded queue and drop counting
Switching from unbounded_channel + send to a bounded channel with try_send changes behaviour: when the queue is full, chunks are dropped and counted. No test exercises this path, so a regression that reintroduces an unbounded queue or blocking send would go unnoticed. The repository context confirms no test reaches these symbols.

Add test that frame-energy errors retain pending frames
The reordering so that frame_energies is called before draining ensures that a module error does not discard audio. This is a subtle correctness change with no test: if the code is changed back to draining first, frames would be silently lost on transient errors. No existing test covers this error path.

Add test that duration derives from gated WAV bytes
The duration is now computed from the gated WAV output rather than the ungated mono buffer. This is critical because server.rs uses duration_secs to reject recordings that are mostly silence. If the calculation reverts to using mono.len(), silent recordings would pass the duration gate. No test covers this path; audio_capture_tests.rs tests other helpers but not finalize or this calculation.

…es\n\nFix three capture regressions from the TinyVoice port\n
Follow-up to #5547. Three defects that landed with that PR — all consequences of moving the capture DSP off the audio callback, all found by review after it merged.
1. The always-on capture channel was unbounded
always_onfed raw chunks overmpsc::unbounded_channel. That was survivable while the callback did the downmix and resample itself: the processor's work was pure arithmetic and always outran the microphone. It no longer does — each chunk now costs three module round trips — so a slow or stalled processor lets the queue grow without limit behind a producer that never blocks. Now
mpsc::channel(CAPTURE_QUEUE_CHUNKS)withtry_send, neversend: this runs on a realtime audio thread where blocking is a dropout, so a full queue drops the newest chunk rather than waiting. Newest is the right end to lose — everything queued ahead of it is older speech, closer to being transcribed. Drops are counted and logged on a power-of-two schedule, so a persistently overloaded processor is visible without logging inside every callback.2.
duration_secsandsample_countdescribed audio the caller does not havefinalizederived both frommono, which is the ungated buffer — it exists only so the peak-energy measurement can see the silence. The returnedwav_bytesis the gated one. This is not cosmetic:
server.rsgates onduration_secsagainstmin_duration_secs, so a recording that is mostly silence claimed a long duration and passed a check it should have failed. Before the gate moved to the module it ran inside the capture callback, so the buffer this was derived from was already gated and the two agreed. Now derived from the returned WAV:
(len - 44) / 2, 16-bit mono after the header.3. A module hiccup ate captured audio
The processor did
pending.drain(..whole)and then calledframe_energies. On failure itcontinued — with the frames already drained and gone.frame_energiesnow measures&pending[..whole]and thedrainonly runs once it succeeds, so a transient module error delays those frames to the next chunk instead of discarding them.Verification
