fix(memory): learning uses the chosen engine, graph shows loading, re-pin tinymemory v1.22.1 (#6718) - #6892
Conversation
The rebuild loop and the PROFILE.md renderer take their facet cache at boot, before the workspace's context is installed, so `facet_cache_for` and `memory_is_bindable` fell back to `MemorySubsystemConfig::default()` and bound the local TinyMemory module whatever engine the user chose. The cache also kept that one resolved guard for the life of the process, so an engine switch made while the app runs never reached it either. With hosted memory active, learned facets kept going to the local engine. `register_learning_subscribers` now takes the workspace's `[subsystems.memory]` block from the boot path. The long-lived caches use `FacetCache::for_workspace`, which resolves the driver on every call: through the context serving the workspace when there is one, else through the binding for that config.
Until `memory_tree_graph_export` answered, the Graph tab rendered nothing. On hosted memory the first export took 15 to 16 seconds, and the empty canvas read as a broken page. It now shows the shared spinner with the existing `workspace.loadingGraph` string, already translated in every locale.
v1.22.1 carries tinymemory#182. Copy & switch's documents step now skips synced namespaces in the spelling the local engine lists them in (`source_gmail_…`), instead of re-putting every synced item whole before the content replay sends it again. v1.22.0 dropped the unread usage plumbing. The capability declarations are unchanged since v1.21.1, so the advertised families stay the same. Registry record (version, release URL, 11 digests from the release's checksum.toml), ARTIFACT_CAPABILITIES_PIN and its re-read note, the 6 CI pins, the vendor gitlink on the tag, and Cargo.lock.

…rkspace With no context serving the workspace, the long-lived facet cache bound the config it was built with. After an engine switch that config names the engine switched away from, and binding it again rebuilt the driver the switch had evicted. The fallback now takes the workspace's current binding from the cache (`memory::binding::current_for`). A switch leaves exactly one binding for the workspace, the new engine's. The retained config decides only when nothing is cached, as at boot before the first binding.
The desktop host has its own lockfile, which the re-pin left on 1.21.1.

Add e2e coverage for the brain graph loading state
The new loading state for the brain graph (brain-graph-loading) is only covered by a unit test. No end-to-end test drives the brain page in a real browser and asserts that this element appears while the graph is loading. An e2e test should navigate to the brain graph tab, simulate a slow graph response, and verify the loading indicator is visible before the graph renders.

Declining this one, with reasons:
- The branch is covered deterministically.
shows a loading state, not an empty canvas, until the graph arrivesinBrain.test.tsxholds the graph request pending, assertsbrain-graph-loadingis shown, then resolves it and asserts the graph replaced it. It fails with the oldnullbranch restored. - E2E has no way to hold the graph pending. The graph comes from the in-process core's
memory_tree_graph_export, not from the mock backend. So there is no mock route to slow down, and adding a delay knob to the core only for this test would put a test-only path in production code. - It would be a timing assertion. Catching a transient state in WebDriver races the response.
insights-dashboard.spec.tsalready avoids exactly this: its comment explains that requiring a render-timing marker "turned this route-mount smoke test into a timing assertion".
The existing e2e renders the memory graph surface (11.2.3) still covers the route mount and the graph's final state.

…ding `current_for` returned the binding cached for a workspace as it was. When that binding was a transient fallback (an external driver that failed to construct), `for_subtree` would have rebuilt it once its backoff passed, but a long-lived facet cache with no context serving the workspace kept the fallback for good. `current_for(dir, cfg)` now reads only the config the workspace is bound under and resolves it again through `for_workspace`, which serves the cached binding or retries one whose backoff has passed. `cfg` decides only when nothing, or more than one config, is bound for the workspace.

Add end-to-end test for the brain graph loading state
The new brain-graph-loading element appears while the brain graph is being loaded (e.g. when the hosted engine builds derived layers). The unit test in Brain.test.tsx mocks the RPC and verifies the element renders, but no end-to-end test starts a real core, navigates to the Brain page with a slow graph response, and asserts that the loading state is shown and then replaced by the graph. A Playwright or WDIO spec should wait for [data-testid="brain-graph-loading"] to appear and then disappear.
