fix(agent): don't offer thread goal tools to thread-less turns (#6956) - #6968
Conversation
Reversed the expected and actual arguments in the assert_eq! call to follow the standard convention where the expected value comes first. This ensures that test failure messages display the intended comparison correctly. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
The tool registration process was incorrectly referencing the harness assembly, causing tools to be registered against the wrong component. This change updates the registration logic to properly associate tools with the correct harness assembly, ensuring that tool calls are routed to the intended execution context. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Move harness tool registration to occur before the turn runner is invoked, ensuring that all required tools are available when the agent begins processing. This prevents runtime errors caused by missing tool definitions during turn execution. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
A turn runs on a chat thread exactly when its run context carries a thread id; the `into_tinyagents` method stamps that id onto the `RunConfig` that tools read. This change introduces a `has_thread` boolean so that thread-scoped tools (such as `goal_*`) are only registered when the thread id is `Some`, preventing their registration in non-threaded contexts. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Added a test module declaration for the harness tool registration module, enabling the existing test file to be compiled and run as part of the test suite. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
…andidate collection Move the filtering of thread goal tools from the registration loop into the candidate collection phase, so that the shadow exposure layer's reference matches what actually gets registered. Previously, thread goal tools were still included as candidates but skipped during registration, causing a mismatch that could lead to stale references. Removed an import of `tool_result_artifacts_dir` from the security policy module that was no longer referenced anywhere in the artifact wiring code, cleaning up a dead dependency. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
When a session does not have an associated thread, thread-goal tools such as goal_get, goal_set, and goal_complete are now filtered out of the visible tool specs, tool references, and visible tool names. This prevents these tools from being presented to the model in contexts where they are not applicable, ensuring that only relevant tools are available for non-threaded sessions. When a session has no active thread, tools that are registered as thread-goal tools should not be shown as visible tool specs. This change adds a filter to exclude such tools from the visible list when `self.thread_id` is `None`, preventing the system from offering thread-specific goals in a context where no thread exists. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
Several test assertions and path constructions still included a `tool-results` directory component that no longer exists in the production code, causing tests to look for artifacts in the wrong location. Updated the affected paths to match the current artifact storage layout, where the session directory sits directly under the workspace root. Moved the `build_system_prompt_tiered` method and its associated logic from `runtime_session.rs` into a new `prompt` submodule to improve code organization and reduce the size of the main session file. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
The thread id can no longer be changed once the runtime session has been initialized, as doing so would desynchronize thread-scoped tools from the cached prompt and declaration snapshot. The tool filtering logic was also reordered to apply the thread-goal tool exclusion after chaining deferred tools, ensuring the filter correctly applies to the complete set of visible tools. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
The legacy limit entry for the runtime_session composition seam was reduced from 1965 to 1909 lines, reflecting the actual size after generic session state was moved to tinyagents-runtime. This keeps the exception exact and prevents the CI check from incorrectly flagging the file. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>
The `mod prompt` declaration was placed before the module-level documentation, which is invalid Rust syntax. Moving it after the doc comment ensures the module compiles correctly. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly Co-authored-by: Medulla <medulla@tinyhumans.ai>

Add end-to-end coverage for the late thread_id guard
The new guard silently discards a thread_id change after the runtime session is initialized, but no end-to-end test exercises this path. A test that attempts to set a different thread_id after the first turn and asserts the warning is logged (or that the thread_id is unchanged) would catch regressions. The current coverage is limited to Rust unit tests of tool registration, which do not exercise the accessor layer at runtime.

Covered at the session-host level in #6979: a session with no thread whose runtime session is already initialised refuses a later set_thread_id(Some(..)) (thread id and durable session id stay None), its prompt and declared tools still carry no goal_*, and rebinding the same id is a no-op (a_thread_bound_after_session_init_is_refused_and_keeps_goal_tools_out, rebinding_the_same_thread_after_session_init_is_a_no_op). Leaving this open because it is not driven through the web-chat/JSON-RPC path, which is what a full E2E would need.
