Stacked on #7090, which is stacked on #7085 (merge those first). This branch carries their commits; the change here is the last commit, a6895d23c3.

Summary

  • A Notion page, Linear issue or other connector record edited upstream now replaces its previous version in memory on the next sync. Before, every old version stayed beside it and was recalled as current.

Problem

  • A memory item's id is a digest of its content, so an edited record synced as a new item. Nothing linked it to the record's earlier versions, which accumulated.

Solution

  • memory/sources/versions.rs keeps <workspace>/memory/connector_items.json, mapping each record (<connection>:<item id>) to the id of the item last stored for it.
  • store_records() stores through the new sync::store_all_ids (store_all is now a count over it). It finds the records whose stored id changed and forgets the previous ids (ForgetTarget::Ids) before remembering the new ones.
  • A failed forget remembers nothing, so the next sync retries; it never fails the sync.
  • Deleting the connection drops its records from the file.
  • Tradeoffs:
    • The map is rewritten per sync pass, about 100 B a record (~1 MB at 10k records). This is marked in the code with the upgrade path.
    • Versions stored before this change, or on a workspace without the file, are not known and stay.
    • Idempotency keys are unaffected: each is derived from the body, and forgetting frees the old one.

Submission Checklist

  • Tests added or updated:
    • versions_tests: changed, unchanged and new records; dropping a connection leaves a connection whose id shares its prefix alone.
    • an_edited_record_replaces_its_previous_version: an unchanged re-sync forgets nothing; an edited record's old version goes while the other record stays; disconnecting clears the map.
    • Revert-check: no stale ids makes it fail.
  • Diff coverage ≥ 80%: the new module and paths are exercised. The failed-forget branch is a log-and-return.
  • Coverage matrix updated: N/A, behaviour-only change.
  • Affected feature IDs: N/A, none.
  • No new external network dependencies introduced: none.
  • Manual smoke checklist: N/A.
  • Linked issue: N/A, no issue. This implements decision D7 of the CortexDB memory scoping.

Impact

  • Core memory (desktop, CLI). Re-synced edits no longer pile up.
  • On CortexDB a forget by id looks the ids up in every held scope, and any forget drops cached recall packs. This only happens when a sync finds edited records.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The pull request changes Composio record version tracking, GitHub memory namespaces, legacy import counts, and time-zone-aware prompt and memory date handling. It adds date-range inputs for recall and fetch, and updates related tests and callers.

Changes

Composio memory lifecycle

Layer / File(s) Summary
Persist connector item versions
crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/sources/versions.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/sources/versions_tests.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/sources/mod.rs
Adds file-backed tracking for current and stale item IDs, connection-scoped keys, stale-ID settlement, connection cleanup, and tests for these behaviors.
Return per-item storage IDs
crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/sources/sync.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/sources/sync_tests.rs
Adds store_all_ids, which returns an optional stored ID for each input item. store_all now returns the number of successful stores, and belief-build jobs use touched nodes.
Replace edited records during sync
crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/sources/composio.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/sources/composio_tests.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/integrations/composio/ops/sync.rs
Composio sync tracks stored and emptied records, forgets stale IDs, and settles them after successful forgetting. Tests cover changed records, blank content, and connection cleanup. Empty batches also reach storage.
Handle unavailable connection roots
crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/sources/roots.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/sources/roots_tests.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/sources/composio.rs
Roots loading distinguishes unreadable records from empty records. Forget operations preserve records when loading fails, and Composio cleanup handles unavailable roots.

Repository-scoped GitHub memory

Layer / File(s) Summary
Derive repository-specific namespaces
crates/openhuman-core/src/config/schema/memory.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/brain.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/brain_tests.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/sources/sync_tests.rs
Adds the split_github_by_repo setting and routes GitHub items to normalized repository namespaces when enabled.
Count nested source collections
crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/brain.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/brain_tests.rs
Nested collection buckets contribute to their source’s count. Tests cover GitHub counts and forgetting.

Time-zone-aware prompts and memory recall

Layer / File(s) Summary
Carry time zones into prompt timestamps
crates/openhuman-core/src/agent/prompts/render_helpers/section_renderers.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/agent/session_host/*, crates/openhuman-core/src/agent/subagent_host/ops/runner.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/web_chat/session.rs
Session and sub-agent prompts use configured time zones for timestamp lines. Open web-chat sessions refresh the zone from current configuration.
Extract date hints during turns
crates/openhuman-core/src/config/schema/memory.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/lifecycle/*, crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/schemas/defs.rs
Adds optional model-based date-hint extraction and parsing. Turn processing can pass a valid hint into dated recall when enabled.
Pass date ranges to memory operations
crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/types.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/ops.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/tools.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/tools_tests.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/flows/*, crates/openhuman-embed/src/memory.rs
Recall and fetch accept optional local-date ranges. Memory operations convert supplied ranges to time hints; tool schemas describe the input and callers that do not use it pass None.

Legacy memory import counts

Layer / File(s) Summary
Count legacy documents and learnings
crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/import.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/import_tests.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/types.rs
Legacy scans use aggregate counts, including memory-tree chunk sources and the listed learning sources. Tests cover chunk-only stores and expanded learning totals.

Supporting updates

Layer / File(s) Summary
Update callers and polling behavior
crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/ops_tests.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/flows/*, crates/openhuman-embed/src/memory.rs, tests/memory_v2_e2e.rs, scripts/ci/check-openhuman-rust-layout.mjs
Updates parameter construction for the added date-range fields. End-to-end polling returns its latest result when a sleep reaches the deadline, and the line-count pin is updated.

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 2aa13

Connector edits can leave duplicate or outdated memories when storage or version-state persistence fails. Resolve those failure paths before merging unless the retention risk is explicitly accepted.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 2aa13

Normal re-syncs have useful safeguards against concurrent replacement and failed cleanup. However, cleanup records are not tied to the storage destination that created them, so changing destinations can misdirect or prematurely acknowledge cleanup. Some downstream ownership and retrieval behavior remains unverified.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · architecture · inferred: The replacement ledger records bare item IDs per workspace and connector record, without their originating storage authority. After an engine or endpoint change, a later pass submits pending IDs to its current engine and settles them on any successful response. This can falsely acknowledge cleanup while obsolete, potentially sensitive connector data remains at the original destination. Sync serialization and shared-current-ID checks do not establish destination ownership.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The demonstrated cleanup scope is the selected engine's item-ID authority and the workspace's connector ledger. Upstream edits or empty records trigger replacement, but the storage-destination concern additionally requires a destination change. Cross-tenant deletion, unauthenticated reachability, and provider-wide exposure are not established.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — A pending ID created at destination A can be returned by the shared ledger during a pass using destination B. If B's deletion request succeeds, settlement removes the pending ID without proving deletion at A. This supports the cleanup-ownership concern, but does not verify an attacker-driven unauthorized deletion or a new disclosure vulnerability.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Date extraction sends the raw user turn and a date instruction to an additional invocation of the configured chat model. It uses no tool-capable invocation context, limits the response to 400 tokens, and reduces output to an optional parsed date range. It is created only when recall, conversation logging, and the opt-in setting are enabled, under the existing pre-turn deadline and AgentMemory instance.
  • observed — The session time-zone setter changes timestamp interpretation, not tool permissions. The timestamp renderer parses a known IANA zone and formats its canonical name; invalid values fall through to the existing device-zone or UTC behavior rather than being interpolated as arbitrary instruction text.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Connection deletion does not participate in the new storage mutex and can discard version mappings written by an overlapping sync. The underlying ability to write after deletion's engine scan already existed at the base, so this is a limitation of cleanup and recovery coverage rather than evidence that the PR introduced post-deletion retention.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Bind current IDs and pending cleanup to a stable, non-secret storage-owner identity. Partition obligations across destinations and settle only against the originating authority; when that authority is unavailable, preserve the obligation rather than acknowledging another destination's response.
  • proposed — Coordinate connection deletion with in-flight producers through a connection generation or cancellation barrier, and make restart reconciliation explicit for storage committed before version metadata. Treat this as strengthening a best-effort lifecycle, including a race that predates this PR.

What changed

No supported behavioral explanation was produced.

Features

  • Modified — Store a record's changed version and forget the old one: When a connector record is edited upstream, the sync pass stores its new content and forgets the previously stored item id; records that come back empty hand their stored id back for forgetting, so the memory no longer keeps a duplicate of every past version of a Notion page or Linear issue. (crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/sources/composio.rs#pub async fn store_records()
  • Added — Version tracking state with retry of unsettled forgets: A new module remembers, per connection-scoped length-prefixed record key, the id of the last stored item, persists it atomically in <workspace>/memory/connector_items., and hands ids not settled by a successful forget back on the next pass — including on passes that stored nothing — so a failed forget is retried rather than leaving an orphaned version; a corrupt file is set aside as .corrupt and a failed quarantine now changes nothing so the only copy is never overwritten. (crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/sources/versions.rs, crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/sources/mod.rs#pub mod composio;)
  • Internal refactor — store_all reports the stored item ids: The shared per-item store loop now returns the id each item was stored under (None for a failed item), which store_records zips against the record keys so stale ids can be tracked; the count-only store_all remains on top of the new store_all_ids. (crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/sources/sync.rs#pub(crate) async fn store_all()
  • Modified — Store passes serialised with a process-wide lock: A process-wide tokio mutex is held across each store_records call — storing, finding previous versions and forgetting them — so two passes over the same records (on-demand and scheduled sync) cannot interleave and one could not forget an item the other has just made current again. (crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/sources/composio.rs#pub async fn store_records()
  • Modified — Empty sync passes still retry pending forgets: run_sync_pass now calls store_records even when the connector returned no records, because memory uses those passes to retry forgetting previous versions an earlier pass could not; behaviour for a failed store keeps its existing error message. (crates/openhuman-core/src/integrations/composio/ops/sync.rs#pub async fn run_sync_pass()
  • Modified — Disconnect drops the connection's version entries: forget_connection now also calls versions::drop_connection after the connection's items are forgotten, removing the connection's record keys from connector_items. so later versions of those records start fresh. (crates/openhuman-core/src/memory/sources/composio.rs#pub async fn forget_connection()

tests

  • Conclusion: Success
  • Scope reviewed: all assigned evidence
  • Lane summary: This revision lands the version-tracking design (`versions.rs`) behind `store_records`, serialises passes with a `STORE` mutex, wires `drop_connection` into disconnect cleanup, and adds focused unit tests plus a behavioural composio test. Nearly all earlier findings about state preservation, locking, key encoding, corrupt-file quarantine and empty-pass retries are addressed by this code and I've marked them resolved. Two concerns remain: `settle` marks stale ids forgotten even when the forget report says otherwise, and the empty-pass retry that the ops sync comment claims is not exercised at the composio layer. Findings from earlier revisions that concern files outside this diff (scoped-root cleanup searching all memory, the polling deadline) could not be rechecked from what was provided. (13 earlier finding(s) still open) _Code retrieval was unavailable (model: ladder embeddings returned 400 Bad Request: {"error":{"message":"unknown ladder vectors; known ladders are flash (also chat-v1, flash-v1), instant (also no-think, instant-v1), reasoning (also deepseek), max-reasoning (also max-reasoning-v1), deepseek-flash (also reasoning-v1, agentic-v1), deep (also luna), scribe, uncensored, vectors-oai3 (also embeddings-oai3-v1), vision (also vision-v1, multimodal-v1), image (also images-v1, image-v1), vi), so this review saw the diff alone._ _Memory was unavailable (model: cortex: v1/recall: error sending request for url (http://cortexdb:3141/v1/recall\)\), so this review ran without it._

description

  • Conclusion: Success
  • Scope reviewed: all assigned evidence
  • Lane summary: The version-replacement design (versions.rs with a length-prefixed key, atomic save, pending/retry on failed forget) plus the composio.rs serialisation lock and the empty-pass retry in sync.rs now cover the earlier concerns: encoding collisions, Windows file replacement, corrupt-file quarantine, drop-connection retention, empty-pass retries, and failed-forget tests are all present and match the PR description. Nothing new stands out; the change looks sound to merge. (9 earlier finding(s) still open) _Code retrieval was unavailable (model: ladder embeddings returned 400 Bad Request: {"error":{"message":"unknown ladder vectors; known ladders are flash (also chat-v1, flash-v1), instant (also no-think, instant-v1), reasoning (also deepseek), max-reasoning (also max-reasoning-v1), deepseek-flash (also reasoning-v1, agentic-v1), deep (also luna), scribe, uncensored, vectors-oai3 (also embeddings-oai3-v1), vision (also vision-v1, multimodal-v1), image (also images-v1, image-v1), vi), so this review saw the diff alone._ _Memory was unavailable (model: cortex: v1/recall: error sending request for url (http://cortexdb:3141/v1/recall\)\), so this review ran without it._

e2e

  • Conclusion: Neutral
  • Scope reviewed: all assigned evidence
  • Lane summary: This revision adds connector record-version tracking (versions.rs), wires stale-version forgetting into store_records, retries pending forgets on empty sync passes, and cleans up tracking when a connection is dropped. The Rust-side behaviour is now well covered by unit tests, and most earlier core-correctness findings are addressed; the two end-to-end coverage gaps I raised earlier still stand, since no e2e spec drives an edited record's old version being forgotten or an empty pass retrying pending forgets — the composio specs only call `openhuman.composio_sync` and assert on stored results. Otherwise the change looks sound to merge from the end-to-end perspective, with those coverage gaps recorded. Waiting on end-to-end jobs: `Rust E2E (mock backend)`, `Build Playwright E2E Artifact`, `E2E (Playwright / web lane)`, `Desktop E2E (full suite, 3 OS)`. 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift

Preserve partial Composio IDs before returning an account-wide error.

When a later item returns an account-wide storage error, store_all_ids discards the IDs collected earlier and returns immediately. store_records then skips versions::begin, so later syncs cannot retire those stored items. Preserve the partial IDs and return the account error only after version tracking completes.

A memory item's id is a digest of its content, so a Notion page or a
Linear issue edited upstream synced as a new item and every old version
stayed beside it, each one recalled as current.

store_records() now tracks, per record (`<len>:<connection>:<item id>`),
the id of the item last stored for it, in
<workspace>/memory/connector_items.json (memory/sources/versions.rs). A
sync pass (versions::begin) records the ids it stored and the records
that came back empty, and hands back the ids no record holds any more
plus any an earlier pass could not forget; they are forgotten by id and
then settled. A failed forget leaves them pending for the next pass,
which run_sync_pass now runs for zero-record passes too, and never fails
the sync. An id another record still holds is never handed back. Writes
go through a temporary file and a rename; an unparsable file is set
aside, a transient read error or a failed save changes nothing. Deleting
the connection drops its records.
… corrupt file

- The on-demand and the scheduled Composio sync can run a pass over the
same records at once. Pass A could find Y stale and forget it after
pass B had stored Y again and made it current, deleting B's current
item. store_records now holds one lock across storing, finding the
  previous versions and forgetting them.
- When an unparsable versions file could not be moved aside, tracking
restarted from empty and a later save would overwrite the only copy.
It now changes nothing for that pass.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Add refers_to to both controller schemas.

The registered-controller validator rejects parameters that are not listed in ControllerSchema.inputs. The tool registry also emits additionalProperties: false. Therefore, normal RPC callers cannot send refers_to until both schemas declare it. The direct handlers already deserialize and forward this field.
