1930's Influenced Black Velvet Gown

[SOLD]

Anybody need a brand new long black velvet vintage-style gown for a costume party? Brand new, asking price is $8 USD.

Yes, I said $8.

In a manufacturer's design contest I won a free sample of my design - a black velvet calf-length 1930's style dress with black lace trim. My dream dress! They did a beautiful job except for two things, and I can't actually wear it.

Photo has been lightened a bit to show detail.

Black slightly stretchy velvet gown with soft black ruffled stretch lace trim at neckline and all along thigh hem. Bias cut bottom panel for swing when you walk. Side zip, unlined. Brand new, never worn. Manufacturer's size 38 (bust 36" - waist 28" - hip 38") however a somewhat smaller frame could fit it nicely as well. Approx. length 49". 94% polyester, 6% spandex.

1.) It's skin tight on me, and I hate skin tight. Should have requested a size up. Ah well.

2.) There are a few places where the fabric is slightly scorched (when you contact velvet directly with a hot iron or a steamer head it makes slightly flatter shiny spots which you can see when you turn the fabric in the light). YOU'D THINK THEY WOULD KNOW BETTER. Anyway, there are only a few but they *are* visible in broad daylight. Even so, if the dress fit me I'd keep it. I could always just wear it at night, at the club. Plus I know from accidentally trashing velvet clothing in the past that hand-washing this stuff and scrunching it while wet makes an awesome crushed texture which stays even when it's dry, so so technically it could be rescued. More or less. But there's no point for me since it doesn't fit me anyway.

To say I'm choked is an understatement. Only three were made: one for me, one for their design records, and one for an auction. I can't get another, it was a one-shot deal. All I'm asking is $8 which is what I paid to have it shipped to me. I can't bring myself to take it to the Sally Ann until I know that no one else could have a use for it.

Located in Canada, will ship worldwide. PayPal accepted. USA $8 surface or $10 air, Canada approx. $8-$13 (depends on postal code), elsewhere $16.50 air.

It's aimed at aficionados of early 20th century style and culture (pre-WWII), and has features not only on historical topics, but on what's going on in vintage lifestyle culture today. It might be something you'd love! If you'd like to check it out/purchase, you can visit http://www.zeldamag.com !

An advert for my new, yet old group...
by Murphy's Law (theunicursalhex)
at August 11th, 2009 (04:38 pm)

Having a hard time finding steampunk or dark cabaret bands?  I know I am.  For one, MySpace is a menace to me, as much as a joy.  Perhaps others have experienced my plight.

I would like to introduce you to steampunkmusic , my new group.  I created this group in order to keep up with the large advent of dark cabaret, steampunk, gypsy punk and countless other subgenres.   I would like it to clear up confusion on where to find steampunk music. If you are in a band of any genre like this, please add yourself to the friends list, so people can find you.

Feel free to join and post anything as long as it has to do with these genres of music.  I am pretty liberal with what you can post.

Thanks!

The Royal Baritarians' grotesque expressionist performance (above) was truly brilliant....

DANCES OF VICE presents "Visions of Weimar", January 10th:

"In a tribute to Dances of Vice patron saint Anita Berber, the infamous German expressionist nude dancer also known as Weimar's "Priestess of Depravity", cabaret sensation and Foreign Affairs producer ISENGART joins again with Dances of Vice resident band GRANDPA MUSSELMAN & His Syncopators to take you to the nightclubs of Weimar Berlin with the most compelling and risque German cabaret songs of the period. This event also stars cabaret-noir chanteuse NICKI JAINE on the musical saw, accompanied by BRIAN VIGILONE (Dresden Dolls, World/Inferno) and BEN ICKIES (Ambitious Orchestra) - The incredible MINSKY SISTERS - shadow puppet theatre from The ROYAL BARITARIAN PLAYERS - and burlesque stars AMBER RAY and THE FLYING FOX, from San Francisco."

Spiritualism in the '20s

A few months ago, I purchased a beautiful cloche hat from Boring Sydney on Etsy.com, and since we live in a house that was built in 1927 and have a victrola that was made in 1927, my boyfriend and I thought it would be fun to take a 1920's "Spirit Photo."

I have a far more appropriate dress now, so we may have to do another one -- I will never get tired of this effect!
