Graffitifish was much loved project of mine years ago. A quirky literary zine started in June of 94, it ran (irregularly) until February 97, and it was, in many ways, the seed from which Bad Moon Books grew.
I'm resurrecting it here as a live journal community because, frankly, it was a lot of fun. It was carefree, low-impact publishing. I crack a smile just thinking about it. I would include what I liked, lay it out as I saw fit, print as many or as few as I wanted (or could afford) and then basically scatter the result to the winds. I like to think that it even made a bit of a name for itself in Ottawa.
The most complicated part of the process was collecting material. Back in '94 email wasn't what it is today and Canada Post was slow and a bit of a hassle. Here's where this community enters into the equation.
First and foremost, I want this to be an fun and open forum for all manner of creative expression. Poetry. Fiction. Illustration. Commentary. Whatever. I want to be able to issue challenges. I want to run goofy little contests. I want more than anything for this to grow into a community (in the proper sense of the word) of creative folks. I want it to be a place to show your stuff. Part spotlight, part workshop.
Everyone is invited to join Graffitifish and post or comment on what has been posted. All I ask is that you play nice. There is a difference between constructive criticism and attacks. I won't put up with the latter.
Ultimately, I want to bring back the actual zine itself and draw material for it from the community. Before I do this though, I will let everyone know and obviously ask permission for each and every piece I have my eye on. First things first though ... lets cast out for a bit and see who's biting.
