Hi all...I'm Brenda!
So, my senior seminar class is basically one big paper where we pick a topic of our choice, do research and run a study.
Since I’m big into music and Irish/Celtic fests and I’ve messed around with an older musician or two (still am actually!), I’ve decided to do mine on groupies (oh, that’s a bad word, I don’t mean it in a slutty way…how about “band aids”) and see if there is a correlation between what they do and their life at home. I lost my dad at a young age and once my mom remarried, I didn’t get to see his side of the family, and it was a big family. I love the Celtic fests because I know so many people there and it’s like one big family to me. So, it’s like I’m trying to get the feeling of a family elsewhere, ya know? I know two other people who have slept with musicians. One is my age and she comes from a family with a lot of kids and the father was never around. My other friend lives with just her mom and I’m almost positive she was abused as a child. I’m not trying to be stereotypical and I hope I don’t offend anyone, but it just seems like of the people I know or ones I’ve talked to in the past, we all have similar backgrounds.
What I want to know is, can anyone give me an idea on what to search for. We need 50 sources and they have to be journal articles. I’ve searched my school library’s online journal archives and I can’t come up with much…maybe I’m searching wrong. I’ve tried keywords like: parents, fatherless, broken family, musicians, attention, acting-out…I don’t know why I can’t come up with stuff. I’m looking in music journals, psychology, sociology…barely anything. If anyone has read anything along these lines, knows an article they can point me at, or maybe your school has a better search engine? Even if you can give me keyword ideas to search for, it would be very much appreciated right now.
Most importantly- if anyone has read or knows where I can find a journal article on groupies please let me know. I’m sure I’ll be able to come up with a lot of the psychology/family information for the history part of the paper, but not much for the history part on groupies.
Also, if you have had an encounter with a musician or know of some message board where people discuss this type of stuff, please let me know. I’ve come up with a survey that I need a lot of people to fill out as part of my “research” portion. If you’d be willing to fill one out, that would rock, too. You wouldn’t have to use your name, because I just need to collect data. I’m not gonna single anyone out.
