It's been a year and it's about time I updated my bio; I've been around long enough now that I know how do to some things here, so I'm a little less timid.
Still not sure where to start, but anime has been a major part of my life, ever since my early 20's, and remains a much cherished hobby to this day. Which means, I've been into anime ever since it was called Japanimation, and Star Blazers was the beginning for me. And if Star Blazers (aka, Space Cruiser Yamamoto) was the beginning, it was Macross (at that time, part of a not-so-great show called Robotech) that pushed he headlong into this life of anime appreciation.
Of course, as you can tell by the fanfic I write, my main playground was, and still is Arakawa's-sensei's Fullmetal Alchemist. I've followed the series ever since the first episode aired on adult swim for the very first time and now that there's a new version out, I still adore this title as much as ever. And if someone were to ask me which version I like most, I'd have to reply "all," because each and every incarnation has it's own charms and appeal. The only version I had a problem with was the movie, Conqueror of Shamballa. I never cared for the fact the brothers were separated from everyone they know.
I'm not big on yaoi, and my favorite pairing is Ed x Winry (as if you couldn't tell from my fanfic). I don't have a problem with yaoi, but it just doesn't appeal to me as much.
I also love other anime, such as Cowboy Bebop, Midori Days, Genshiken, Kodocha, Neon Genesis Evengelion, Mushi-shi, Full Metal Panic, Shin-chan, and the list goes on, and on, and on.... I do listen to a fair bit of J-Pop, such as L'Arc-en-Ceil, Asian Kung-Fu Generation, and Yui. Most of my musical interests lie in rock music from the '60's, early '70's, and even many rock group from the 1980's on up, such as Journey, Nickelback, Within Temptation, Aerosmith, ect, ect. No country, rap or opera spoken here.
I've played guitar in the past, currently trying to teach myself piano (MIDI keyboard), and have always loved to play music, usually self-taught. I did know how to read music one time in the distant past, but I learned to play by ear and that's my preferred method of learning.
Past fandoms include Quantum Leap, Star Trek (classic), Star Wars, X-Files, and Blake's 7, to name a few.
Okay, something about me other than being an otaku... Severe weather has always been an interest, as well as photographing it. I used to be a local storm spotter until a few years ago when some major physical issues cropped up. Hard to run for cover if your knees don't work so well.
I'm also an artist, and work in many different mediums, from oils to Copic markers. My best work tends to be my people and pet portraiture, and I still struggle with my manga-style work. I really need to re-take a Life Drawing class to help me brush up on my anatomy.
I acquired a Masters of Science degree in 2000 (with honors), which was intended as a stepping stone to go into the field of Meteorology, but an illness laid that idea to rest when I developed some memory problems and math that was excruciatingly difficult became impossible. I did make it up to Calculus II, but soon discovered that math really, really, well, sucks. I'm a artist, not a mathematician, dammit!
Now the writing, I never had the patience with English classes, but love to write. Got good grades in English 101 & 102, but I didn't care for some of the stuff we had to read as assignments. Don't care for poetry, except I did take an interest in Robert Frost's works.
So, basically I'm a big kid that never really grew into a stodgy adult, and still remain young at heart. I have friends from all age groups, and still communicate with many of the young adults I had college classes with. I'll most likely still be into anime/manga when I'm even more grey and beyond.
After all, one can grow up without growing old...
