Hi everyone,
Not sure how active this community still is, but i just moved here from Vancouver and the Vancouver lj community is very active, so when i am looking for something and can't find it, i'd post my question there. Is this the best place in Halifax to do the same or is there another forum of sorts, or community that is quite active?
And do Haligonians use kijiji over craigslist? It seems that way. Just checkin'.
Thanks! :) Cheers! |

I'm going to Dartmouth/Halifax to visit family this week. I've been looking around my city (Ottawa) for this but can't find it. Maybe the maritimes can save me!
I'm looking for a toy vacuum cleaner that actually works and is a canister model. (SO specific I know!). I know that Little Henry and Miele make one but the only place I have sourced them so far is a store in Toronto that only sells them at x-mas time.
Is there anywhere in the area that I might be successful in finding one? |

I remember hearing about this a long time ago, but I completely forgot about it. Google and HRM now have the Transit Planner! It's the best thing ever, especially for people that are new to the area. So, I thought I would share.

Its great. You type where you are and where you want to go, and it gives you the best bus route to take (and how to get to the bus stop) |

Hey Guys and Gals,
I am trying to go to Annapolis Royal for a few days, but I am having trouble finding a way there. I've looked at Acadian Lines, but the buses leave so late from Halifax. I also looked at the PAB? Shuttle, but I don't think that leaves from Halifax until later in the day.
So, my question of the day is: Does anyone know of another way to get to Annopolis Royal from Halifax besides the two above? Any help would be wonderful. |

Hey all, I am relocating to just outside Halifax in about 4 1/2 weeks. I've spent the last seven years in the USA, most of that time just outside Detroit. I grew up about 45km from Toronto though. I am anxious to get back to Canada!
Anyway I have a few questions...
Does anyone have any recommendations for good traditional style tattoo artists in the Halifax area?
How about local coffee shops?
Farmer's Markets?
Rock climbing facilities?
Is there a good local music scene?
Yes, I could look things up online, and plan to, and I do have family out there but I wanted to see if any of you could give me personal reviews, likes/dislikes about this kind of thing.
I've heard there's a fairly active night life due to the numerous universities as well as the naval port.
I am excited about my big move. I haven't been to Halifax in fifteen years, when I was 12, haha... |

Hello
I'm a born-and-raised Nova Scotian moving back home in September for grad school at Dalhousie, and I'm looking for a place to live :)
I'm looking to share with two or three roommates, preferably older students (22+ ish, I'm almost 25), or at least, not party-people (sorry, I'm old and boring!). I have a cat, who is afraid of everything, so you'd never see her!
I've been stalking the Dal and SMU off-housing pages, but if anyone knows of other places to look, let me know!
I'll be in Halifax the first week of May, so I'm hoping to find a place/sign a lease/whatever then *crosses fingers*
Thanks!!! |

Hi there!
My boyfriend and I are moving to Halifax in August-ish for school. We've lived together for over four years, so we pretty much know exactly what we're looking for, and I've been doing a lot (quite a bit) of online research, and there are two particular property management companies that we've been looking at renting from.
We're looking at Killam Properties and Southwest Properties - and I was wondering if anyone had any opinions/horror stories/approving stories of either company, or if anyone has any recommendations for other property management companies? Or any opinions on specific buildings for either company?
We're hoping to stay in the south end (closer to Dalhousie) in a 1 bedroom apartment (we need about 600-650 sq ft to be comfortable) and we'll be in Halifax for at least 4 years. The thing is that we haven't decided if we wanted to take a week vacation in July to come 'apartment hunting' and to sign a lease, and then come back for a bit before actually moving over there (which would cost significantly more, but we'd be certain to have a place), OR if we just wanted to pack up and go and stay in a hotel until we had a place. The plan was that I was going to email both Killam Properties and Southwest Properties in the next little bit to see if they could give me an opinion on availability in August/September, how much of the application process can be done online and whether or not we should come hunting ahead of time, but I thought it'd be a good idea to see what people thought of either company.
Thank you so much for your help!
